1.IronandSteel
Theearthcontainsalargenumberofmetalswhichareusefultoman.Oneofthemostimportantoftheseisiron.Modernindustryneedsconsiderablequantitiesofthismetal,eitherintheformofironorintheformofsteel.Acertainnumberofnon-ferrousmetals(非铁金属),includingaluminum(Al)andzinc(Zn),arealsoimportant,buteventodaythemajorityofourengineeringproductsareofironorsteel.Moreover,ironpossessesmagneticproperties(磁性),whichhavemadethedevelopmentofelectricalpowerpossible.
