OpenShiftshipswithafeaturerichwebconsoleaswellascommandlinetoolstoprovideuserswithaniceinterfacetoworkwithapplicationsdeployedtotheplatform.TheOpenShifttoolsareasingleexecutablewrittenintheGoprogramminglanguageandisavailableforthefollowingoperatingsystems:

Inordertoextractaziparchiveonwindows,youwillneedaziputilityinstalledonyoursystem.Withnewerversionsofwindows(greaterthanXP),thisisprovidedbytheoperatingsystem.Justrightclickonthedownloadedfileusingfileexplorerandselecttoextractthecontents.

ThefirstthingwewanttodotoensurethatouroccommandlinetoolswasinstalledandsuccessfullyaddedtoourpathislogintotheOpenShiftenvironmentthathasbeenprovidedforthisRoadshowsession.Inordertologin,wewillusetheoccommandandthenspecifytheserverthatwewanttoauthenticateto.Issuethefollowingcommand:

Usingaproject
Projectsareatoplevelconcepttohelpyouorganizeyourdeployments.AnOpenShiftprojectallowsacommunityofusers(orauser)toorganizeandmanagetheircontentinisolationfromothercommunities.Eachprojecthasitsownresources,policies(whocanorcannotperformactions),andconstraints(quotasandlimitsonresources,etc).Projectsactasa"wrapper"aroundalltheapplicationservicesandendpointsyou(oryourteams)areusingforyourwork.Forthisfirstlab,wearegoingtouseaprojectnamedsmokethathasbeencreatedandpopulatedwithanapplicationforyou.
Duringthislab,wearegoingtouseafewdifferentcommandstomakesurethatthingsintheenvironmentareworkingasexpected.Don’tworryifyoudon’tunderstandalloftheterminologyaswewillcoveritindetailinlaterlabs.
