MynameisMenorca,agirlfromIndia.WhenIwasinmyearlyteens,goingabroadandcarryingoutresearchinlifescienceswerealwaysinmymind.ThefactthatIhadmyfamilyandalotofacquaintances(熟人)intheUSmadeitaseeminglynaturalchoiceforme.Iwasn’tencouragedtogoabroadformyBachelordegree(学士学位),andsoIwasdeterminedtomakeitformyMasterdegree(硕士学位).
However,afteryearsofpreparation,examsandlotsofdetailedapplications,Icouldnotsecure(得到)anyfinancialaid(助学金)intheUS.Luckily,IhadalsodecidedtoapplyforafewEuropeanuniversitiestowardstheendofmyBachelordegree,andIwasextremelygladtobeadmittedintoaGermanuniversitywithafullscholarship.
It’sbeen4yearssincethathappened.Ihavesaiditahundredtimesandperhapswillsayitagain.StudyinginGermanywasoneofthebestdecisionsIhaveevermadeandIamsohappywithhoweverythingturnedouttobe!
Itwasoneofthosethingsthatweren’tveryplanned,butmovingtothiscountrygavemenumerousopportunitiestolearnalot,workatsomeofthebestinstitutesinmyfield,exploreanewculture,makefriendsandtravelandeverydayisalearningexperienceforsure.
Oneofthemostimportantexperiencesformethough,wasunderstandingmyselfbetter:
mypassions,interests,andwhatIwouldreallyenjoydoingfurtheron.However,aftermovingaround,workingatdifferentplacesandlivingindifferentcities,IdiscoveredthattherewassomuchmorethatIcoulddo!
