DuringWWIItheonlycoldwinterwasin1941-1942,andtheGermanarmylackednecessarysupplies,suchaswinteruniforms,duetothemanydelaysinitsmovements.HitlerwassoconfidentofaquickvictorythathedidnotprepareforeventhepossibilityofwinterwarfareinRussia.Hewastooconfidentinhis"lightningwar"strategy.Yethiseasternarmysufferedmorethan734,000casualtiesduringthefirstfivemonthsoftheinvasion,andon27November1941,GeneralEduardWagnerreportedthat"Weareattheendofourresourcesinbothpersonnelandmateriel.Weareabouttobeconfrontedwiththedangersofdeepwinter."
