生命中的五个球
几年前,在一所大学的毕业典礼演讲中,可口可乐公司的首席执行官布赖恩•戴森讲到工作与其他义务的关系:
想象生命是一场不停丢掷五个球于空中的游戏。
这五个球分别为工作、家庭、健康、朋友和心灵,而且你很努力地掷着这五个球,不让它们落地。
很快地你会了解工作是一个橡皮球。
如果你失手落下它,它还是会弹回来。
但是家庭、健康、朋友和心灵这四个球是用玻璃做成的。
一旦你失手落下其一,它们可能会少了一角,留下无法挽回的记号、刻痕、损坏甚至碎落一地。
它们将永远不会跟以前一样。
你必须了解这个道理,并且为平衡你的生命而努力。
但要怎么才做得到呢?
别拿自己和他人比较,这只会降低你的价值。
因为我们都是独一无二的,因为我们每一个人都很特别。
别人认为重要的事不一定是你的目标。
只有你才知道什么最适合你。
不要将贴近你心的人、事物视为理所当然的存在。
你必须将他们视为你的生命一般好好地抓牢他们。
没有他们,生命将失去意义。
别让你的生命总在依恋过去种种或是寄望未来中逝去。
如果你活在每个当下,你就活出了生命中的每一天。
当你还能给予的时候别轻言放弃。
只要你不放弃,就有无限延伸的可能。
别害怕承认你并非完美。
正因如此,我们才得以由这脆弱的细丝紧密地串绑在一起。
别害怕遇到危险。
正因如此,我们才得以有机会学习勇敢。
别以爱不可能找到为借口而紧闭你的心扉。
找到爱最迅速的方法就是给予你的爱;失去爱最快速的方法就是紧紧地抓着你的爱不放;维持爱最好的方式就是给爱一双翅膀。
莫要匆忙地度过你的一生,那匆忙不仅让你忘了曾经到过哪里,也让你忘了你要去哪里。
莫忘记,人类情感上最大的需要是感恩。
莫害怕学习。
知识没有重量,它是可以容易携带的珍宝。
莫漫不经心地蹉跎光阴或口无遮拦。
时间与言词两者都是不可挽回的。
生命不是一场赛跑,而是一步一个脚印去享受的旅程。
过去已成历史,未来充满未知。
今天是份礼物:

likebedsheets,pillowcasesandfamilyphotostomakethemfeellikehomenomatterwheretheyare;somestayforlongperiodsinthesamehotelandasaresultbecomeveryfamiliarwithserviceandattendants;othersmaysimplyputsomeflowersbythehotelwindowtomakethingsmorehomely.Furthermore,drivingacampingcarduringone’stravelsandsleepinginthevehicleatnightisjustlikehome—onlymobile!
Andhowaboutmaintainingrelationshipswhileintransit?
SomekeepcontactwiththeirfriendsviaInternet;somesendlettersandpostcards,orevenphotos;othersmayjustcallandsayhi,justtolettheirfriendsknowthatthey’restillaliveandwell.Peoplefindwaystokeepintouch.Makingfriendsonthewayhelpstravelersfeelmoreorlessathome.Backpackersinyouthhostelsmaybecomeverygoodfriends,evencloserthansiblings.
Nowadays,fewerpeopleareworkingintheirlocaltowns,sohowdotheydevelopasenseofbelonging?
Wheneverwestepoutofourlocalboundaries,thereisalwaysanother“home”waitingtobefound.Whereverweare,withjustalittlebitofeffortandimagination,wecanmaketheplacewestay“home”.
旅人的家
人人都需要家:
小孩子把父母的住所当作自己的家;寄宿生在平日把学校称为“家”;结了婚的夫妻要共同营造自己的新家;至于旅者呢……至少有几晚他们要住在不能称为“家”的地方。
那么那些不得不长期出门在外的人怎么办?
难道他们无权拥有一个家吗?
他们当然有!
有些经常出门的旅者会随身携带些属于自己的日用品,像床单、枕套或全家福相片等,无论走到哪里,这些东西都能带给他们家的感觉;有些人在长驻时会待在同一家旅馆里,使他们对店里的服务和人员都非常熟稔;有的人可能只是在旅馆的窗边摆些花,使房间更像个家。
此外,一路开着露营车旅行,晚上就住在车里,这就更像是真正的家了——只不过能移动而已!
那人们在旅程穿梭时,又是如何维系关系的呢?
有些人通过互联网跟朋友联络;有些人寄信、明信片,甚至照片;还有些人可能只是打个电话问声好,目的仅是让朋友们知道他们还活着,而且活得不错。
人们发现了各种各样的联络方式。
在旅途中交朋友能帮旅者或多或少地找到一点家的感觉。
青年旅店里的背包客也许会成为非常要好的朋友,甚至比手足还要亲。
如今,大多数人都是离乡在外工作,那么他们又如何能有归属感呢?
一旦我们走出家门,就总有另一个“家”在等着我们去发现。
不论身处何处,只要稍加努力和想象,我们就能把栖身之地营造成一个“家”!

Shewasfiredandperhapsrightlyso,forfailingtoteachfundamentals.Suchthingsmustbelearned.Butsheleftapassioninusforthepureknowableworldandsheinflamedmewithacuriositywhichhasneverleft.IcouldnotdosimplearithmeticbutthroughherIsensedthatabstractmathematicswasverymuchlikemusic.
Whenshewasrelieved,asadnesscameoverusbutthelightdidnotgoout.Shelefthersignatureonus,theliteratureoftheteacherwhowritesonourminds.IsupposethattoalargeextentIamtheunsignedmanuscriptofthehighschoolteacher.Whatdeathlesspowerliesinthehandsofsuchaperson.
Icantellmysonwholooksforwardwithhorrortofifteenyearsofdrudgerythatsomewhereinthedustydarkamagicmayhappenthatwilllightuptheyears...ifheisverylucky.
老师
我相信一名好老师就是一名伟大的艺术家,而且相信好的老师和伟大的艺术家一样难得。
教书也许是一门最伟大的艺术,因为它的媒体是人的大脑和灵魂。
