Inthe1980sand1990sthepopulationofTibetanantelopesdroppedbymorethan50Percent.Hunterswereshootingantelopestomakemoney.TheirLivingplaceswerebecomingsmallerasnewroadsandrailwayswerebuilt.
InordertosaveTibetanantelopes,theChinesegovernmentplacedthemundernationalprotection.ZhaxiandVolunteerswatchedovertheantelopesdayandnighttokeepthemsafefromattacks.Bridgesandgateswereaddedtolettheantelopesmoveeasilyandkeepthemsafefromcarsandtrains.
