Aschoolboy,whohasbeenunabletoplaysports,hasfoundtheperfectentertainment—snowboarding.ThomasPettigrewisenjoyinghimselfbyperformingdifficultactionsatfreestyleevents.

Butitalsoshowedshortcomings.Amongthemostnotable,thelongtimeittooktostabilizetheFukushimaDaiichiNuclearPowerPlantafteritwasfloodedfromthetsunami,Gotosaid.Thatprocesstookeightmonths.Another,Japan’sdependenceonnuclearpower,shesaid.ThedisasterforcedJapantocloseallofitsnuclearpowerplants,leavingpartsofthecountrywithoutelectricity.
