OnAugust7,1858,twoimportanteventsforthegameoccurred.TheMelbourneFootballClubwasfounded.Itwasoneoftheworld'sfirstfootballclubsinanycode.Also,afamousmatchbetweenMelbourneGrammarSchoolandScotchCollegewasplayed.Itwasumpired(仲裁)byTomWills.AseconddayofplaytookplaceonAugust21,andthentherewasathirdandfinaldayonSeptember4.Thetwoschoolshavecompetedeveryyearsince.

InChina,however,KublaiKhanhadbuiltuphisownsystemfordeliveringmessages.ThissystemworkedinthesamebasicwayastheRomansystem.ThedifferencewasthatKublaiKhankept300,000horsesalongtheroadsofthisdeliverylines.Therewereover10,000stationswhereamessagewouldbepassedfromoneridertoanotherwithafreshhorse.Inthisway,KublaiKhancouldreceivemessagesfromanywhereinthecountryinonlyafewdays.
Itwasnotuntilthe1500sthatawell-organizedpostalsystemappearedagaininEurope.Onefamily,thevonTaxisfamily,gainedtherighttodelivermailfortheHolyRomanEmpireandpartsofSpain.Thisfamilycontinuedtocarrymail,bothgovernmentandprivate,throughoutEuropeforalmost300years.
