Whenperformingfiniteelementmodelingandanalysissetup,itisimportanttobeabletoviewthemodelfromdifferentvantagepointsandcontrolthevisibilityofentities.Youmayneedtorotatethemodeltounderstandtheshape,zoomintoviewdetailsmoreclosely,orhidespecificpartsofthemodelsootherpartscanbeseen.Sometimesashadedviewisbest,whileothertimes,awireframeviewallowsyouworkondetailsinsidethemodel.
HyperMeshhasmanyfunctionstohelpyoucontroltheview,visibility,anddisplayofentities.
Inthistutorial,youwilllearnhowto:
•
Controlthepointsofviewusingthemouseandtoolbar.
•
Controlthevisibilityofentitiesusingthedisplaypanel,maskpanel,andtoolsontheUtilitymenu.
•
ControlhowentitieslookbyusingthetoolbarandtheModelbrowser.
•
Renamecomponents.
•
Identifyanddeleteemptycomponents.
•
Deleteallthegeometrylines.
Step1:
RetrievetheHyperMeshmodelfile,bumper.hm.
Step2:
Manipulatethemodelviewusingthemousecontrols.
TheCTRL+mousekeysareusedtorotatethemodel,changethecenterofrotation,zoom,fit,andpan.
1.
Movethemousepointerintothegraphicsarea.
2.
PresstheCTRLkey+leftmousebuttonandmovethemousearound.
Themodelrotateswiththemovementofthemouse.
Asmallwhitesquareappearsinthemiddleofthegraphicsarea,indicatingthecenteroftherotation.
Releasetheleftmousebuttonandpressitagaintorotatethemodelinadifferentdirection.
3.
PresstheCTRLkeyandquick-clicktheleftmousebuttonanywhereonthemodel.
Thecenterofrotationsquareappearsnearwhereyouclicked.
HyperMeshsearchesforoneofthefollowingconditionsinthelistedorderandrelocatesthecenterofrotationatornearthefirstconditionidentified(ifnoneoftheconditionsaremet,thecenterofrotationisrelocatedtothecenterofthescreen):
•
Anearbynodeorsurfacevertex
•
Anearbysurfaceedgetoprojectonto
•
Anearbygeometrysurfaceorshadedelement

PresstheCTRLkey+leftmousebuttontorotatethemodelandviewthechangeinrotationbehavior.
5.
PresstheCTRLkeyandquick-clicktheleftmousebuttonanywhereinthegraphicsarea,exceptforonthemodel.
Thecenterofrotationsquareisrelocatedtothecenterofthescreen.
6.
PresstheCTRLkey+leftmousebuttontorotatethemodelandobservethechangeinrotationbehavior.
7.
PresstheCTRLkey+middlemousebutton,movethemousearound,andthenreleasethemousebutton.
Awhitelineisdrawnalongthepathofthemousemovement.Whenthemousebuttonisreleased,HyperMeshzoomsinontheportionofthemodelwherethelinewasdrawn.
Youcanalsosimplydrawalinetozoominonaportionofthemodel.
8.
PresstheCTRLkey+quick-clickthemiddlemousebutton.
Themodelisfittedtothegraphicsarea.
9.
PresstheCTRLkeyandspinthemousewheel.
Themodelzoomsinoroutdependingonwhichdirectionyouspinthemousewheel.
10.
Movethemousepointertoadifferentlocationinthegraphicsareaandrepeat#9.
Noticethemodelzoomsinoroutfromwherethemousehandleislocated.
11.
PresstheCTRLkey+quick-clickthemiddlemousebuttontofitthemodeltothegraphicsarea.
12.
PresstheCTRLkey+rightmousebuttonandmovethemousearound.
Themodelispanned(translated)accordingtothemousemovement.
Step3:
Manipulatetheviewofthemodelusingtherotatefunctionsonthetoolbar.
1.
OntheViewControlstoolbar,left-clickdynamicrotate,
.
Thestatusbardisplaysthemessage,"Movethemouseintothegraphicsregion."
2.
Movethemousepointerintothegraphicsarea.
Thecenterofrotationsquareappears.
3.
Pressandholdtheleftmousebutton,andthenmovethemousearound.
Themodelrotateswiththemovementofthemouse,similartothewaythemodelrotateswhenyoupresstheCTRLkey+leftmousebuttonandmovethemouse.
4.
Clickthemiddlemousebuttononthemodel.
Thecenterofrotationsquareappearsnearwhereyouclicked.
5.
Movethemousepointeroutofthegraphicsareaorright-clicktoexittherotationmode.
6.
OntheViewControlstoolbar,right-clickdynamicrotate,
andmovethemousepointerintothegraphicsarea.
Again,thecenterofrotationsquareappears.Youcanclickthemiddlemousebuttononthemodeltochangethecenterofrotation.
7.
Presstherightmousebuttonnearthecenterofrotationsquare.
Themodelrotatescontinuouslyinthedirectionofyourmousepointer,relativetothecenterofrotation.
8.
Withtherightmousebuttonstillpressed,movethemousearoundslowly.
Thedirectionandspeedoftherotatingmodelchanges.Thefartherthemousepointerisfromthecenterofrotation,thequickerthemodelrotates.
Youcanreleasetherightmousebutton,andthenpressitagaintorotatethemodelinadifferentdirection.
9.
Middlemouseclickanywhereinthegraphicsarea,exceptonthemodel.
Thecenterofrotationsquareisrelocatedtothescreen’scenter.
10.
Movethemousepointeroutofthegraphicsareaorleft-clicktoexittherotationmode.
Step4:
Manipulatetheviewofthemodelbyusingthezoominandoutfunctionsonthetoolbar.
