Asachild,TedTurnerlivedaverylonelylife,oftenseparatedfromhisfamily.DuringWorldWarⅡ,hisfatherservedintheNavy.EdTurnertookhiswifeanddaughterwithhimsotheycouldlivenearbybutlefthis6yearoldsonbehindinaboardingschoolinCincinnati,Ohio.WhenTedTurnerwasinthefifthgrade,hisfatherenrolledhiminamilitaryacademy.EventhoughTurnerhadfriendsatschool,itdidn’tmakeupfortheabsenceofhisparentsandsister.EventuallyTedTurnerenrolledatBrownUniversityinProvidence,RhodeIsland.Heattendedcollegeoffandon,becameinvolvedinsailboatracing,andbecameamemberoftheU.S.CoastGuardforawhile.Inhisearlytwenties,hebecamegeneralmanagerofoneofhisfather’sbranchoffices—theTurnerAdvertisingCompanyinMacon,Georgia.
