Kawashimawaswell-acquaintedwithformerQingEmperorPuYiwhoregardedherasamemberofRoyalFamilyandmadeherwelcomeinhishouseholdduringhisstayinTianjin.ItwasthroughthiscloseliaisonthatKawashimawasabletopersuadePuYitoreturntotheManchuhomelandasheadofthenewlyJapanese-createdstateofManchukuo.

AftertheinstallationofPuYiasEmperorofManchukuo,Kawashimacontinuedtoplayvariousrolesand,foratime,wasmistressofMajorGeneralHayaoTada,whowaschiefmilitaryadvisorforPuYi.Sheformedanindependentcounterinsurgencycavalryforcein1932madeupof3,000-5,000formerbanditstohuntdownanti-JapaneseguerillabandsduringthePacificationofManchukuo,andwashailedintheJapanesenewspapersastheJoanofArcofManchukuo.[4]In1933,sheofferedtheunittotheJapaneseKwantungArmyforOperationNekka,butitwasrefused.Theunitcontinuedtoexistunderhercommanduntilsometimeinthelate1930s.
