《长部·第31经·教授尸迦罗越经》

如是我闻。
ThushaveIheard:
尔时,世尊住王舍[城]竹林栗鼠养饵处。
OnoneoccasiontheExaltedOnewasdwellingintheBambooGrove,theSquirrels'Sanctuary,nearRajagaha.
于此时,居士子尸伽罗越晨早起床,出王舍[城],至郊外沐浴净衣,合掌向东方、南方、西方、北方、下方、上方之各方礼拜。
Nowatthattime,youngSigala,ahouseholder'sson,risingearlyinthemorning,departingfromRajagaha,withwetclothesandwethair,worshippedwithjoinedhandsthevariousquarters--theEast,theSouth,theWest,theNorth,theNadir,andtheZenith.
尔时,世尊于晨早,着内衣、持外衣及钵,入王舍城行乞。
ThentheExaltedOne,havingrobedhimselfintheforenoontookbowlandrobe,andenteredRajagahaforalms.
世尊见居士子尸伽罗越晨早起床,出王舍[城],至郊外沐浴净衣,合掌向东方、南方、西方、北方、下方、上方之各方礼拜。
见居士子尸伽罗越已,如是曰:
NowhesawyoungSigalaworshippingthusandspoketohimasfollows:
“居士子!
汝何故晨早起床,出王舍[城],沐浴净衣,
"Whereforedoyou,younghouseholder,risingearlyinthemorning,departingfromRajagaha,withwetclothesandwethair,
合掌向东方、南方、西方、北方、下方、上方之各方礼拜耶?
”
worship,withjoinedhandsthesevariousquarters--theEast,theSouth,theWest,theNorth,theNadir,andtheZenith?
"
“世尊!
我父之将死时,向我言:
‘亲爱者!
汝须礼拜诸方。
’
"Myfather,Lord,whiledying,saidtome:
Thesixquarters,dearson,youshallworship.
世尊!
如是,尊重、珍敬、敬信、奉载我父之言
AndI,Lord,respecting,revering,reverencingandhonoringmyfather'sword,
而晨早起床,出王舍[城],沐浴净衣,合掌向东方、南方、西方、北方、下方、上方之各方礼拜也。
”
riseearlyinthemorning,andleavingRajagaha,withwetclothesandwethair,worshipwithjoinedhands,thesesixquarters."
“居士子!
于圣者之律,如是不成为礼拜六方。
”
"Itisnotthus,younghouseholder,thesixquartersshouldbeworshippedinthedisciplineofthenoble."
“然,世尊!
于圣者之律,应如何礼拜六方耶?
善哉,世尊!
于圣者之律,教示我礼拜六方之法。
”
"Howthen,Lord,shouldthesixquartersbeworshippedinthedisciplineofthenoble?
Itiswell,Lord,iftheExaltedOnewouldteachthedoctrinetomeshowinghowthesixquartersshouldbeworshippedinthedisciplineofthenoble."
“然,居士子!
谛听善思念之,我当说。
”
"Well,younghouseholder,listenandbearitwellinmind;Ishallspeak."--
居士子尸伽罗越应诺世尊:
“唯然,世尊。
”
"Verygood,Lord,"respondedyoungSigala.
世尊如是说:
AndtheExaltedOnespokeasfollows:
“居士子!
于圣弟子要
"Inasmuch,younghouseholder,asthenobledisciple
舍离四种业垢,
(1)haseradicatedthefourvicesinconduct,[1]
依四种理由不作恶业,
(2)inasmuchashecommitsnoevilactioninfourways,
又不习散失钱财之六种原因,
(3)inasmuchashepursuesnotthesixchannelsfordissipatingwealth,
彼如是脱离十四种之罪恶,
hethus,avoidingthesefourteenevilthings,
保护六方,
coversthesixquarters,
彼为克胜[现在、未来]两世而修善业,
andentersthepathleadingtovictoryinbothworlds:
彼由征服此世、彼世,
heisfavoredinthisworldandintheworldbeyond.
彼于身坏死后,当生于善趣天界。
Uponthedissolutionofthebody,afterdeath,heisborninahappyheavenlyrealm.
依彼令舍离之四种业垢者何耶?
(1)"Whatarethefourvicesinconductthathehaseradicated?
居士子!
杀生是业垢、不与取是业垢、于肉欲之邪行是业垢、虚诳语是业垢也。
Thedestructionoflife,householder,isaviceandsoarestealing,sexualmisconduct,andlying.
彼舍离四种业垢即此也。
”
Thesearethefourvicesthathehaseradicated."
世尊如是说。
ThusspoketheExaltedOne.
善逝如斯说已,大师更如是曰:
AndwhentheMasterhadthusspoken,hespokeyetagain:
杀生不与取,又言虚诳语
及近他人妻,贤者不赞赏
Killing,stealing,lyingandadultery,
Thesefourevilsthewiseneverpraise.
“如何人由四种理由作恶业耶?
(2)"Inwhichfourwaysdoesonecommitnoevilaction?
依贪欲行非道故,彼作恶业、
Ledbydesiredoesonecommitevil.
依嗔恚行非道故,彼作恶业、
Ledbyangerdoesonecommitevil.
依愚痴行非道故,彼作恶业、
Ledbyignorancedoesonecommitevil.
依恐怖行非道故,彼作恶业也。
Ledbyfeardoesonecommitevil.[2]
是故,居士子!
圣弟子决不依贪欲行非道,不依嗔恚行非道,不依愚痴行非道,不依恐怖行非道。
彼不以此等四种理由作恶业也。
”
"Butinasmuchasthenoblediscipleisnotledbydesire,anger,ignorance,andfear,hecommitsnoevil."
世尊如是说。
ThusspoketheExaltedOne.
善逝如所说已,大师更如是曰:
AndwhentheMasterhadthusspoken,hespokeyetagain:
由贪欲嗔恚,恐怖与愚痴
若犯此法者,皆如月黑分
彼名声减退,由贪欲嗔恚
恐怖及愚痴,不犯此法者
皆如月白分,彼名声增广
Whoeverthroughdesire,hateorfear,
OrignoranceshouldtransgresstheDhamma,
Allhisgloryfadesaway,
Likethemoonduringthewaninghalf.
Whoeverthroughdesire,hateorfear,
OrignorancenevertransgressestheDhamma,
Allhisgloryeverincreases
Likethemoonduringthewaxinghalf.
“不散失钱财之六种原因者何耶?
(3)"Whatarethesixchannelsfordissipatingwealthwhichhedoesnotpursue?
嗜耽酒类之放逸,居士子!
实是散财之原因;
(a)"indulgenceinintoxicantswhichcauseinfatuationandheedlessness;
耽着于非时游乐街衢,是散财之原因;
(b)saunteringinstreetsatunseemlyhours;
入于[舞蹈之]观览处,是散财之原因;
(c)frequentingtheatricalshows;
耽着于赌博逸乐,是散财之原因;
(d)indulgenceingamblingwhichcausesheedlessness;
结交恶友,是散财之原因;
(e)associationwithevilcompanions;
耽着于懒惰,是散财之原因。
(f)thehabitofidleness.
居士子!
由嗜耽于酒类之放逸,实能生此等六[种]过患:
于现资财之损失、
增加斗争、
成疾病之巢窟、
损伤名誉、
现露阴物、
第六是使智力减退。
居士子!
此等六[种]过患,是因嗜耽酒类之放逸而生也。
(a)"Thereare,younghouseholder,thesesixevilconsequencesinindulginginintoxicantswhichcauseinfatuationandheedlessness:
(i)lossofwealth,
(ii)increaseofquarrels,
(iii)susceptibilitytodisease,
(iv)earninganevilreputation,
(v)shamelessexposureofbody,
(vi)weakeningofintellect.
居士子!
耽着于非时游乐街衢,实能生此等六[种]过患:
彼不守护、防御自已;
亦不守护、防御彼之子、妻;
亦不守护、防御彼之财产;
又于恶事怀疑念;
向彼生起不实之议言;
甚至为家苦所包围也。
居士子!
此等六[种]过患,实是耽着于非时游乐街衢而生也。
(b)"Thereare,younghouseholder,thesesixevilconsequencesinsaunteringinstreetsatunseemlyhours:
(i)hehimselfisunprotectedandunguarded,
(ii)hiswifeandchildrenareunprotectedandunguarded,
(iii)hispropertyisunprotectedandunguarded,
(iv)heissuspectedofevildeeds,[3]
(v)heissubjecttofalserumours,
(vi)hemeetswithmanytroubles.
居士子!
入于[舞蹈之]观览处,实能生此等六[种]过患:
[即寻求]何处有舞蹈?
何处有歌唱?
何处有音乐?
何处讲谈?
何处有手铃乐?
何处有大鼓乐耶?
居士子!
此等六[种]过患,实由入于[舞蹈之]观览处而生也。
(c)"Thereare,younghouseholder,thesesixevilconsequencesinfrequentingtheatricalshows:
"Heiseverthinking:
(i)whereistheredancing?
(ii)whereistheresinging?
(iii)whereistheremusic?
(iv)whereisthererecitation?
(v)whereisthereplayingwithcymbals?
(vi)whereistherepot-blowing?
[4]
居士子!
耽着于赌博逸乐,实能生此等六[种]过患:
对胜者生怨、
又输者于心有悲[忧赢得之失]、
有现在资财之失、
入于法庭[彼之]语无效力、
为朋友同事所轻侮、
婚姻被拒绝,被谓赌汉不能[娶]妻。
居士子!
此等六[种]过患,实由于耽着赌博之逸乐而生也。
(d)"Thereare,younghouseholder,thesesixevilconsequencesinindulgingingambling:
(i)thewinnerbegetshate,
(ii)thelosergrievesforlostwealth,
(iii)lossofwealth,
(iv)hiswordisnotrelieduponinacourtoflaw,
(v)heisdespisedbyhisfriendsandassociates,
(vi)heisnotsoughtafterformatrimony;forpeoplewouldsayheisagamblerandisnotfittolookafterawife.
居士子!
结交恶友,实能生此等六[种]过患:
狡猾者、
乱行者、
大豪酒者、
诈伪者、
欺瞒者、
粗暴者,此等是彼之朋友、是彼之伴侣。
居士子!
此等六[种]过患,实由结交恶友而生也。
(e)"Thereare,younghouseholder,thesesixevilconsequencesinassociatingwithevilcompanions,namely:
anygambler,
anylibertine,
anydrunkard,
anyswindler,
anycheat,
anyrowdyishisfriendandcompanion.
居士子!
耽着于懒惰,实能生此等六[种]过患:
过寒而不为业、
过暑而不为业、
过晚而不为业、
过早而不为业、
我甚饿而不为业、
我甚渴而不为业。
彼于如是事业多设口实故,向于未生之富不生,已生之富损失也。
居士子!
此等六[种]过患,实由耽着于懒惰而生也。
”
(f)"Thereare,younghouseholder,thesesixevilconsequencesinbeingaddictedtoidleness:
"Hedoesnowork,saying:
(i)thatitisextremelycold,
(ii)thatitisextremelyhot,
(iii)thatitistoolateintheevening,
(iv)thatitistooearlyinthemorning,
(v)thatheisextremelyhungry,
(vi)thatheistoofull.
"Livinginthisway,heleavesmanydutiesundone,newwealthhedoesnotget,andwealthhehasacquireddwindlesaway."
世尊如是说。
ThusspoketheExaltedOne.
善逝如斯说已,大师更如是曰:
AndwhentheMasterhadthusspoken,hespokeyetagain:
有成好饮友,友中之亲友
于时必要生,友始成朋友
日升又寝床,狎近人妻女
从事于斗争,耽着无益事
又结交恶友,从事于悭贪
此等六种事,导人于破灭
恶伴与恶友,进行恶行人
此彼之两世,必至于破灭
"Oneisabottlefriend;onesays,'friend,friend'onlytoone'sface;oneisafriendandanassociateonlywhenitisadvantageous.
"Sleepingtillsunrise,adultery,irascibility,malevolence,evilcompanions,avarice--thesesixcausesruinaman.
"Themanwhohasevilcomradesandfriendsisgiventoevilways,toruindoeshefallinbothworlds--hereandthenext.
骰子与女人,舞蹈酒及歌
白昼之就眠,非时行街衢
此等六种事,导人至破灭
游骰子饮酒,通他命妻女
交贱非交贤,缺如月黑分
无财无一物,嗜饮入酒肆
债沉如沉水,速亡己家门
"Dice,women,liquor,dancing,singing,sleepingbyday,saunteringatunseemlyhours,evilcompanions,avarice--thesenine[5]causesruinaman.
"Whoplayswithdiceanddrinksintoxicants,goestowomenwhoaredearuntoothersastheirownlives,associateswiththemeanandnotwithelders--hedeclinesjustasthemoonduringthewaninghalf.
"Whoisdrunk,poor,destitute,stillthirstywhilstdrinking,frequentsthebars,sinksindebtasastoneinwater,swiftlybringsdisreputetohisfamily.
嗜耽白昼眠,至夜始思起
常耽于泥醉,无能停住家
甚寒及甚热,而为甚迟至
等闲如是业,虚度年青人
利益尽流去,不虑寒或热
及微若小草,是人所应作
决无逸幸福
"Whobyhabitsleepsbyday,andkeepslatehours,iseverintoxicated,andislicentious,isnotfittoleadahouseholdlife.
"Whosaysitistoohot,toocold,toolate,andleavesthingsundone,theopportunitiesforgoodgopastsuchmen.
"Buthewhodoesnotregardcoldorheatanymorethanabladeofgrassandwhodoeshisdutiesmanfully,doesnotfallawayfromhappiness."
“居士子!
当知此等四种,是敌而似友:
当知持去任何物,是敌而似友;
当知言说为主者,是敌而似友;
当知甘言者,是敌而似友;
当知游荡之伙伴,是敌而似友。
"Thesefour,younghouseholder,shouldbeunderstoodasfoesintheguiseoffriends:
(1)hewhoappropriatesafriend'spossessions,
(2)hewhorenderslip-service,
(3)hewhoflatters,
(4)hewhobringsruin.
居士子!
实依四理由,当知持去任何物,是敌而似友:
彼不择何物而持去;
与小而彼愿得大;
依怖畏而行业务;
为己利而从事。
居士子!
此等四理由,当知持去任何物,是敌而似友。
(1)"Infourways,younghouseholder,shouldonewhoappropriatesbeunderstoodasafoeintheguiseofafriend:
(i)heappropriateshisfriend'swealth,
(ii)hegiveslittleandasksmuch,
(iii)hedoeshisdutyoutoffear,
(iv)heassociatesforhisownadvantage.
居士子!
依四理由,当知言说为主者,是敌而似友:
彼对过去之事假装友谊;
对未来之事假装友谊;
言无意义之娇娆;
于现前应为之事彼示为时不宜。
居士子!
此等四理由,当知言说为主者,是敌
