Transitionscarryyourreaderfromphrasetophrase,sentencetosentence,paragraphtoparagraph,andthroughthemajordivisionsofyourarticle.Althoughyoumaybeabletowriteperfectlyclearlywithoutusingtransitionwords,theyhelpreadersknowwhattheyarereadingabout,howtheygotthere,andwherethethoughtisleadingthem.
Inearlydrafts,itisbettertooverusetransitions;youcanalwayscutthemlater.Beover-specificatfirst.
Usetransitionalwordstoguideyourreaderthrougheachstepofthearticle:
