EmotionalIntelligenceisabookwrittenbyDanielGolemanpublishedin1995.Thetheoryofemotionalquotient(EQ)wasbasedonearlierworkdonebyotherpsychologistsinthe1970sand1980s–aquotientisthenumberthatistheresultofdividingonenumberbyanother,soEQisascoreforbehaviourinvolvingemotions.TheEQconceptclaimsthatemotionalintelligenceisasimportantasthetraditionallyrecognizedintellectualintelligence.AhighIntelligenceQuotient(IQ)doesnotrepresentalltheelementsforasuccessfulcareerorlife.
EmotionalIntelligence(EI)isthecapacityforrecognizingourownfeelingsandthoseofothers,formotivatingourselves,formanagingemotionswellinourselvesandinourrelationships.’TheelementsofEmotionalIntelligenceinclude:

EmotionalQuotientorEQisoneofthewaystomeasureaperson’sabilitytobesuccessfulinlife.Thephrasewasfirstdevelopedinthe1980sandassertsthatemotionalquotientoremotionalintelligenceisasvaluableasintellectualquotient(IQ).Accordingtotheoriesofbrainfunction,ahighemotionalquotientmeanssomeoneisself-confident,self-aware,andabletonavigatethroughtryingemotionaltimes.EQisoftentieddirectlytothedegreeofsuccessonemayhaveintheworkplaceandinpersonalrelationships.
IntelligentQuotientorIQistheacronymforintelligentquotient,andreferstoascoregivenforseveralstandardizedintelligencetests.ThefirstofthesewasdevelopedbyFrenchpsychologistAlfredBinetin1905.HeconstructedtheIQtest,asitwouldlaterbecalled,todeterminewhichchildrenmightneedadditionalhelpinscholarlypursuits.Today,theIQtestiscommonlybasedonsomemodeloftheStanfordBinetIntelligencescale.NotallintelligencecanbemeasuredbyanIQtest.Infact,primarily,anIQtestmeasuresmathematicalandspatialreasoning,logicalability,andlanguageunderstanding.IQscorewasafairlygoodpredictorforschoolperformance.IQscoremayalsopredictfairlywellthedegreetowhichapersonmaybesuccessfulinoccupations.
