Inastudy,145peopleagedbetween19and32wereaskedtolistasmanyunusualusesaspossibleforeverydayobjects.Someofthemweregivena12-minutebreakwhiletheotherswerenotallowedanybreakfromthetask.Peopleonthebreakdidnotsimplyrelax–someofthemweretoldtocarryoutatiringmemorytaskwhileothersdidaneasiertask.
Scientistsfoundthatpeoplewhodidtheeasiertaskweredaydreamingalot.Theythoughtaboutpersonalissues(问题)inthepastorinthefuturebecausetheirmindwasatease(放松的).
Afterthebreak,allparticipantswereaskedtoreturnonceagaintothetaskoflistingunusualusesforeverydayobjects.Itwasfoundthatdaydreamersimprovedtheirperformanceby40percent,whilealltheotherpeople,includingthosewhodidn’thaveabreakandwhodidtiringtasksduringthebreak,performedthesameasbefore.
