摘要
爱伦•坡是美国19世纪浪漫主义小说家,诗人和文艺批评家。
他认为诗歌的宗旨是创造美,因为唯有超凡绝尘的美才可以唤起人们的兴趣。
其诗歌中的意象、主题、声音、修饰、氛围以及情感和手段等都具有超凡脱俗的美。
通过对海伦这个古典美女的描写,达到了一种神圣之美;
坡在逝去的美人中看到了行将陨落的,消逝的的美;
在对过去的追寻中,坡创造了遥远的美;
在对恐怖的惧怕中,发现了别样的美。
本文把这种超美分为无法触及的美和神秘的美,并从这两种美的分析及其形成原因三个角度来探讨作品中的超美思想。

EdgarAllanPoeisapoet,writerandcriticofAmericanRomanticMovementinthe19thcentury.Hethinksthatthepurposeofpoetryistocreatebeauty,becauseonlysupernalbeautycanarousetheinterestsofcommonpeople..Poemakesuseofseveralmethodsandmeanstodepictthesupernalbeautyincludingimages、themes、sounds、rhetoric、atmosphereandemotions.HolybeautyisachievedthroughthedescriptionofHelen,theclassicalbeauty;
LostbeautyisexperiencedbyhimwhenPoewitnesseshisbelovedwomendepartoneafteranother;
Remotebeautyiscreatedwhileheissearchingforthepast;
Gothicbeautyistouchedjustwhenheissufferingthehorror.Inthisessay,supernalbeautyisclassifiedintotwocategories:

Lostbeautyisrelatedtodeathofbeauties.IntheworldofPoe’stheonlypurposeisbeauty,andthemostcharmingisthelostandvanishingbeauty.Theworldlybeautyturnsintosupernalbeautybecauseofdeath.Thegoaloflifeistheperfectionofitself,soitbecomespureandsublime;
