2000ProfessionaloperatingsysteminaNovellNetWare-basednetwork.TodemonstratetheoptionsforconnectingWindows2000-baseddesktopstoNovellNetWareservers,itreferstoafictionalcompany,LitwareIncorporated,whichhasoutgrownitscurrentinfrastructureandisupgradingtoWindows2000ServerandProfessional.TheLitwareaccountingsystemisnotbeingmigratedandwillstayonNetWareServersforanotheryear.Asaresult,theCFO,PeterHouston,isworriedabouttheinteroperabilitywiththerestofthenetwork.HeisrelyingontheMISdepartmenttoaddresshisconcerns.
LitwarehasselectedMicrosoftWindows2000ProfessionalasitsdesktopoperatingsystemWindows2000isidealformixedenvironmentswhereusersmustinteractwithNovellNetWare,UNIXormainframeservers,aswellasWindows2000ServerorWindowsNTServer.
Windows2000ProfessionalincludesthetoolsneededtoconnectandsharedatawithNetWareServers.ThetoolsusedtoachievethisaretheWindows2000ClientServicesforNetWareandtheNWLinkProtocol.
TheClientServicesforNetWareprovidesaccesstoNetWarefile,print,anddirectoryservices.Thisgivesuserstheabilityto:

∙PrinttoNetWareprintqueues.
∙LogontoNovellDirectoryServices(NDS),whichisincludedwithNetWare4.xand5.x.
