veseenlate-breakingeventschangetheoutcome.IthinktheoneReagan-Carterdebatein1980,whichhappenedjustaweekbeforetheelection,helpedturnthatintoalandslide.ThecampaignofGeorgeW.Bushhasalwaysarguedthattheylostthepopularvotebecauseofalate-breakingstoryaboutBush'
syouthfuldrunkdrivingarreststhatcosthim,theythink,afewmillionevangelicals.
But,byandlarge,thisistheperiod—debatesareover—whentheracestabilizes,whichiswhyafive-pointleadwithoneweektogomeansmuchmorethanafive-pointleadwithamonthtogo.So,thehopeoftheTrumpcampaignisthattherearethesepeoplewhohavenottoldthepollsterstheyaregoingtovoteforTrump.TheypointtotheBrexitresults.TheproblemwiththatisthattheBrexitpollswereactuallyvery,veryclose.
