Heliumiscreatedinstars.Infact,nuclearreactionsthatconverthydrogentoheliumareresponsibleformostoftheenergythatstarsproduce.However,theamountofheliumthatcouldhavebeenproducedinthismannercanbecalculated,anditturnsouttobenomorethanafewpercent.Theuniversehasnotexistedlongenoughforthisfiguretobesignificantlygreater.Consequently,iftheuniverseissomewhatmorethan25percentheliumnow,thenitmusthavebeenabout25percentheliumatatimenearthebeginning.
