Thestoneblockswerepushedalongtheroadonwoodensledges（雪橇）．Modernengineershavecalculatedthatitwouldtake1，500workerstodragasledgeonthedirtroad，butonly300onice．Ancienttextssuggestedtheicewasmadeslipperywithmorewater；

thisreducedthefrictionfurtherandjust50mencouldpullasledge．Thistechniqueonlyworkswhenthetemperatureisclosetozero，otherwisethefilmofwaterfreezestooquickly．
