JaneEyerwasabornresister,whoseparentswentoffwhenshewasveryyoung,andheraunt,theonlyrelativeshehad,treatedherasbadlyasaragtag.SinceJaneseducationinLowwoodOrphanagebegan,shedidntgetwhatshehadbeenexpectingsimplybeingregardedasacommonperson,justthesameasanyothergirlaround.ThesuffersfrombeinghumiliatedanddevastatedteachJanetobeperseveringandprizedignityoveranythingelse.Asarewardofrevoltingtheruthlessoppression,JanegotachancetobeatutorinThornfieldGarden.ThereshemadetheacquaintanceoflovelyAdeleandthatgardensowner,Rochester,amanwithwarmheartdespiteacoldfaceoutside.Janeexpectedtochangethelifefromthenon,butfatehaddecidedotherwise:
