INTRODUCTION
BosonNetSim:
Overview
TheCCNAlabscontainedinthislabguidearebasedontheBosonNetSim.ThisPC-basedproductsimulatesawidevarietyofCiscoroutersaswellastheCatalyst1900,2950,and5000switches.TheNetSimsupportsmultipleroutingprotocols,includingRIP,IGRP,EIGRP,
andsingle-areaOSPF.ItsupportsdifferentLAN/WANprotocols,includingPPP/CHAP,ISDN,andFrameRelay.
TheexercisesinthislabguideonlyrequiretheNetSim–theydonotrequireaccesstoanyexternalrouterorswitchhardware.
ItshouldbenotedthattheNetSimsupportsmany,butnotalloftheIOScommandsavailableonarealrouterorswitch.AllthecommandsreferencedinthislabguidearesupportedthroughtheSimulator.
GettingStarted
ToinvoketheNetSim,double-clickontheBosonNetSimicononyourPCscreen.
IfthereisnotanicononthePCscreen,youcanstarttheNetSimbypressingStart->
BosonNetSim->
BosonNetSim.
Youwillbepresentedwithascreenthathasbuttonsatthetoprepresentingeachrouter,switch,orPCthatyouwillbeconfiguring.
Pressoneofthebuttonstoconfigureadevice.Someofthedevicesarehidden(Switch3,Switch4,PC1,andPC2)andcanbeaccessed
bypressingtheMoreDevicesbutton.Thereisalsoabuttonthatcanbepressedtoshowthenetworktopologythatthelabsarebasedon.

TheLabTopologyisshowninthediagramonthenextpage(itcanalsobeviewedbyselectingtheTopologybuttonatthetopoftheNetSimscreen).

Saving/RestoringConfigurationFiles
Youcansaveyourworkandexitatanypoint.First,makesureyouhaveselectedtheappropriaterouter/switch/PCbuttonatthetopoftheNetSimscreen.
ThenextstepistopressFile->
SaveDeviceConfigfromthetopofthescreen.Youwillthenbepromptedforafilename.
Eachindividualdeviceconfigurationmustbesavedseparately.Ataminimum,youshouldplantosaveallconfigurationseachtimeyoupoweroffyourPC.
Torestoreaconfigurationfile,makesureyouhavepressedtheappropriaterouter/switch/PCbutton.ThenextstepistopressFile->
LoadDeviceConfig
(Overwrite)atthetopofthescreenandtoselectthecorrectsavedconfigurationfile.Theconfigurationwillthenbeloaded.
Note:
thisprocesscantake15-20secondstocompleteandyouwillseeconfigurationcommandsflashacrossthescreen.Bepatient!
