“Youguysareleadersinyourschools,”
thepresidenttoldthekids,
“andyou’rehelpingtoteachpeopletheimportanceofgoodnutrition(营养),theimportanceofputtinggoodfoodinyourbodiessothatyou’relivinghealthy,activelives.”
TheHealthyLunchtimeChallengewasopentoyoungpeoplebetweentheagesof8and12andtheirparents.Thecompetitionreceivedabout1,500recipes.Theywerejudgedinthefirstroundonnutritionalvalue,taste,creativityandaffordability,andthestorybehindtherecipe.Chefsthenpreparedtherecipesinasecondroundofjudging.Thewinnerswerechosenbyagroupofjudgesthatincludedgreatchefsandnutritionists,etc.
BeforeheadingfortheWhiteHouse,thewinnersandtheirfamiliesvisitedtheNationalMuseumofAmericanHistorytoseetheFoodexhibitandreceivedhealthybreakfastbagsfromtheWalmartFoundation.Afterthedinner,thegroupheadedforatouroftheWhiteHouseKitchenGarden.Theyallhadawonderfultime.
