Thecontentofanabstractcannotbespecifieduniformlyowingtothediversityofpossibletopicsandtreatments.Itgenerallycontains
(1)yourargument;
(2)methodsorprocedures;
(3)results;
and(4)conclusions.
ThelengthoftheEnglishabstractislimitedtoamaximumof150words.TheChineseabstractshouldcorrespondwiththeEnglishabstract.
Thefirstpageshouldbearthecenteredheading“ABSTRACT,”thetitleofthethesis,andthenameofthecandidate,withquadruplespacing(threelines)before,betweenandaftereachitem.

1.2.1Headings
Thethesispropershouldhaveatitleinboldandenlargedtype.
1.2.2Paper
UseonlyA4whitepaperofgoodqualityandleavesufficientmargins(top:
2.5cm;
bottom:
left:
3.5cm;
right:
2.5cm).
1.2.3Type
Thetypefaces(fonts)usedmustbekeptconsistentthroughoutthethesis.TimesNewRoman12pt(English)and宋体五号/10.5pt(Chinese)aretobeusedforthemaintext,boldArial(English)and黑体(Chinese)forchapterandsectiontitles.Differenttypefacesmayonlybeusedforchaptertitles,tables,graphs,appendices,andpagination.
ThefirstlineofeachparagraphshouldbeginwithanindentationofONETAB(5spaces).
Themaintextshouldbe1.5SPACEDthroughout.SINGLESPACINGshouldbeusedforblockquotationsandillustrativeexamples.
1.2.4Pagination
Allpagesofthethesismustbenumberedinthelowerrightcorner,beginningwiththefirstpageofintroduction.SmallRomannumerals(i,ii,iii,iv,etc.)areusedforPrefatoryMatter(titlepage,Acknowledgements,abstracts,etc.).Thetitlepage’snumberisomitted,so“ii”shouldappearonthefollowingpage.
1.2.5Citation
Referencestomaterialsusedinadocumentenablesreaderstoevaluateitsauthor’saccuracyanddeepentheirownacquaintanceswiththeissuesathand.Citationsystemsmaydifferfromoneanotherindetailsoforder,capitalization,abbreviationandpunctuation.LiteratureandtranslationthesesshouldconsistentlyadheretotheMLAconventions.
1.2.6Quotations
Quotationsmustbeaccurateandmustsignalchangesbyuseofbracketsandellipses.
Ashortquotationoffewerthanthreelinesshouldbeincorporatedintothetextandsetoffbyquotationmarks.Acommaorperiodprecedestheclosingquotationmarkunderallcircumstancesevenifonlyonewordisquoted.Acolonorsemicolonalwaysfollowsthequotationmark.Aquestionmarkfollowsthequotationmarkunlessthequestionisitselfpartofthematerialquoted.
Alongerquotation(ofmorethanthreelines)shouldbesetoffinaseparateparagraphcalleda“blockquotation.”AblockquotationissinglespacedwithinmarginsONETABorfivespaceswiderthanthoseofitssurroundingtext.Anadditionalindentationoffourspacesshouldprecedethefirstlinethatbeginsanewsentence(ratherthancontinuesasentencefromthetext).QuotationmarksareNOTusedatthebeginningandendofblockquotations.
Thereferencecitationofeachquotationmuststatetheexactpageorpagesquoted.
1.3PostscripturalMatter
1.3.1WorksCited
“WorksCited”shouldfollowthethesisproper.Thereferencesmustbearrangedalphabeticallybytheirauthors’surnamesandshouldNOTbenumbered.Theyshouldcontaintheinformationintheorderprescribedbythestylemanual.The“WorksCited”sectionbeginsanewpage.
1.3.2Appendices
Anappendixcontainsmaterialthatthreatenstointerruptthethesis’floworboreitsreaders.Informationprovidedinanappendixshouldbenecessaryandcomplete.
Appendixpagescontinuethepaginationofthethesisasawhole.Theletterdesignation,fulltitle,andpagenumberofeachappendixshould,appearintheTableofContents.
