focusesonfundamentalnewdevelopmentsintheanalyticalsciencesingeneralanddiscouragesspecializedapplicationorientedsubmissionsthatareofinteresttoalimitednumberofreaders.Papersdescribingthedirectuseofroutineanalyticalmethodologiesortheirstraightforward/incrementalextensiontonewsamplematriceswillnormallyberejectedunlessnewandimportantdevelopmentsaredescribedwhichcanbedemonstratedtogiveobviousandquantifiableadvantagesoverexistingapproaches.Inallsubmissionstothejournal,authorsmustaddressthequestionofhowtheirproposedmethodologycompareswiththosepreviouslyreportedeveniftheyemployeddifferenttechniques/methodologies.Thejournaldoesnotfocusonapplicationpapers,especiallythosethatarestraightforwardutilizationsofcommercialinstrumentationorotherexistingtechniques,regardlessofhowcomplexandexpensivetheymaybe.Ifsubmitted,applicationpapersmustclearlydemonstrateahighlevelofgeneralimportanceandinteresttotheanalyticalchemistrycommunityatlarge.

Itwillnormallybeexpectedthatwherenewanalyticalmethodologiesanddevelopmentsaredescribedthesewillbeappliedtoasamplematrixofsuitableanalyticalcomplexity.Insuchcasesappropriatevalidationofthemethodshouldbeprovided,togetherwithproperstatisticaltreatmentofdata.Analyticalperformancecharacteristicsofnewmethodologiesshouldbegiven,includingsensitivity,detectionlimits,calibration,accuracy,precision,andinterferences.Theymustalsoclearlydemonstratesubstantialsuperiorityinsomeimportantrespectoverexistingalternatives.

Manuscriptsareconsideredforpublicationin 

（ACA）onlyonthebasisthattheworkmustbeoriginalandunpublished.Theeditorsandpublisherarefundamentallyopposedtoanyformofduplicationandplagiarismandifeitherisdiscovered,notonlywillthemanuscriptbeimmediatelyrejected,thecorrespondingauthor（s）couldbebannedfromfuturesubmissionstoanyElsevierjournal.Dependingontheextentoftheduplicationorplagiarism,theincidentmayalsobereportedtotheresponsibleauthoritiesattheauthor'

sinstitution（s）.

Typesofpaper 

publishesoriginalpapers,andreviewsdealingwitheveryaspectofmodernanalyticalchemistry.Reviewsarenormallywrittenwithprioragreementoftherevieweditor.Potentialauthorsarerequiredtodiscusstheproposedtopicwiththerevieweditor,andwillbeaskedtoprovideabriefoutlineofthesubjectmatteroftheproposedreview.Reviewarticlesmustbesufficientlybroadinscopetoappealtoawidecross-sectionofthejournal'

sreadership,butshouldbespecificenoughtopermitdiscussiontobemadeatanappropriatedepth.Basicmethodologyandprinciplesshouldnotbeincludedinreviews,butsuitablereferenceshouldbemadetosourcesofthisinformation.Aboveall,reviewsmustbecriticalandcomprehensiveratherthananexhaustivelistofpublishedworksontheproposedtopicandmustprovidethereaderwithexpertopinionregardingtherelativemeritsofthevariouspublishedapproachestothetopicunderreview.FiguresandTablesareencouragedinreviewarticles.Tutorialsdescribingthefundamentalprinciplesandpracticaloperationaldetailsofagivenanalyticaltechnique,sampleprocessingapproachorchemometricmethodarealsowelcome.
