“AWomanonaRoof”isnotjustabouttheconflictbetweenbothgenders,butthewarofclassdifferences.Theheroinesunbathingandtheheroesofthreeworkmenindifferentagessharethesamehotsunbutlivetotallydifferentlives.Althoughthetwoclassesdon’tsharetheequalstatusesofsociety,thatcan’thalttheaspirationoflowerclassforabetterandmoredignifiedlife.
The“fiftyyards”reflecttheclassdifference.Besides,thelifethewomanspentwasinanidlewaylyinginthesunforahealthycolorofskinwhilethethreeworkingmenhavetoreplaceguttersonaroofinthesunforsupportingtheirlives.Sothesunishelpfultotheformerclass,butcrueltothelaterclass.Themenwerestungatbeingdismissedbyadesirableyoungwoman——herindifferencehitattheirmalepride,leavingthemfeelingpowerless.Chancesarethatsheignoredthembecausetheywereworkingmen.
