摘要
《献给爱米丽的玫瑰》是美国杰出南方作家威廉·
福克纳写的一篇短篇小说。
通过对这篇小说中女主人公爱米丽与家庭扭曲的关系、与城镇居民的冲突、对HomerBarron的爱和与黑奴关系的研究,分析出家庭的制约、美国旧南方老一辈的庇护、新一代的妥协以及新旧文化的冲突是爱米丽扭曲性格产生的必然原因,同时展现出美国南方的进步与变革给人们生活带来的影响和变化。

Abstract
ARoseforEmilyisashortstorybytheAmericanauthorWilliamFaulkner.ThroughtheanalysisofthedistortedrelationshipbetweenEmilyandherFamily,theconflictwithtownresidents,theloveforHomerBarron,andtherelationshipbetweenEmilyandtheNegro,itcanbeseenthattherestrictionoffamily,theshelterofoldgenerationinsouthAmerica,thecompromiseofnewgeneration,andtheconflictoftheoldandnewculturearethenecessarycausesofEmily'
sdistortedcharacter.AndthispaperalsopresentstheinfluenceandchangeswhichtherevolutionbroughtintothepeopleinSouthAmerica.

Introduction
Therearefourchaptersinthispaper.ThefirstchapterpresentsthedistortedrelationshipbetweenEmilyandherfamily.Herfamilydidnotlikeher.Itwastheinfluencethatherfatherleftonherremainedthroughouttherestofherlife.Thesecondchapterstatestheconflictwithtownresidents.Emilyneededrespectandthefeelingofsecurity,butnobodycaredabouther.Emilyconfrontedwiththeconflictsbetweenindividualandsociety,traditionandreality.ThethirdchapterpresentstheloveforHomerBarron.Thelovewasatragedy.Thestrongfeelingofpossessionandherunhealthycharactercauseshertragedy.TheforthchapteranalysestherelationshipbetweenEmilyandtheNegro.Asaservant,helookedafterEmilyasgoodaspossible.
WilliamFaulkner,anoutstandingsouthernwriteroftheU.S.A.,wasaregionalist,spendingmostofhistimeinasmallregion—DeepSouth.HewasconsideredbymanytobethegreatestwriteroffictionthattheUnitedStateshasyetproduced.UsingthedecayandcorruptionoftheSouthaftertheAmericanCivilWarasabackground,Faulknerportrayedthetragedythatoccurswhenthetraditionalvaluesofasocietydisintegrate.HeinventedacountyYoknapatawpha;
thecapitalisJefferson,inhisimagination.Mostofhisstoriestookplaceinthisimaginaryplace.“ARoseforEmily”isoneofthem.
WilliamFaulknerwasthemostfamousofallcontemporarywritersoftheAmericanSouth,whoisremarkedin“WritersinCrisis”as“notmerelyrepresentsbutwastheDeepSouthasnootherAmericannovelistmayquitechimetobe”.Hereceivedthe1950NobelPrizeforLiterature,WilliamFaulkner'
sreputationandinfluencehadspreadtoeverypartoftheworld.
Hehasfewcharactersthathavenormalsense,andMissEmily,themaincharacteroftheshortstory,isatypicalonewhoresemblesalmostalltheaspectsofWilliamFaulkner'
swritingstyle.

TheGriersonfamilywasabigfamilyofgreatwealthwithawellpronouncedrichlineage.MissEmilyGriersonwasthesocialiteofhertown.Naturallywiththisstatustherewasacertainreputationshehastowithhold.Shenotonlyrepresentedherfamilynamebutinasensethepeopleofhertown.Becauseshewassuchadominantfigurethetownspeoplehaveputheronapedestalandwereveryjudgmentalofheractions.
1.1EmilyandHerFather
Inthepatriarchalsociety,thewomanistheman'

tallowhertoseemenforanyreasonatall.Thedeceasedfatherusedtoforceawayalltheyoungmenthatwereinlovewithher.Emilywasreveredasagoddessinthetownspeople'

Afterthedeathofhisfather.Emilyhadbeenlivinginherdictatorialfathershadow.Sherefusedtoreleasehisbodytobeburiedbecause,inherownmind,shebelievedthathewasactuallynotdeceased.Thedayafterherfather'
sdeath,theladiesoftheneighborhoodcametotheGriersonhometoconsoleEmily.She,however,meetthematthedoor,dressedasusualandwithnotraceofgriefonherface.Emily'
sfatherhasalwaysbeenthereforher,evenwhenshedidnotwanthimtobe.Therefore,shecouldn’tacceptthefactthathewasnowgoneandshewasalone.Afterrecoveringfromherfather'
sdeath,Emilystilldidsnotletgoofhimcompletely.Evenafterhispassing,shekeptacrayonportraitofhimtowatchoverherthroughtheyears.

Thevisitoftwocousinseitherinterfereswithhermarriage,orconductthefuneralforher.Neitherofthemisjoyfulthing.Theydidnotloveherbutwantedtocontrolher.
Fromanotheraspect,hertwocousinsshowmoredemeanoroftheGrierson,representingtheoldfamiliesandthesousesociety,whichiscold,philistine,andilliberal.Afterreceivingthelettersfromtheclergyman,theytriedtopersuadehernottomarrywithHomer.Assomewomeninthetown,whattheycaremostisthesocalleddecency,butnottheEmily'

TherelationshipbetweenEmilyandhercousinsisindifferenceandtheyhavelittleaffection.Asthecousins,theyarethewitnessofEmily'

Thepeopleofthetownwerealsocharactersinthestory,thoughtheyweren'
tmentionedtoooften.Thesepeoplebroughtthestorytolife.Itgaveitrealnessandhelpedthereadertoreactwiththetown.
