Abstract
JaneEyreisarealisticmasterpiecein19thcentury,whichhasastrongromanticismcolor.Peopleuniversallyconsiderthattheworkisbasedonitsauthor’slifestory,.ThisthesisdiscussesthesimilaritiesanddifferencesofcharactersbetweenthewriterCharlotteBronteandtheheroineJaneEyreandmainlyfocusesonthecharacterofJaneEyre.ThisarticleincludeslifeexperiencesofCharlotteandJaneandthetruelovebutcomplicatedbetweenJaneandRochester.Therefore,thenovelsuccessfullybuildsafeminineimagethatisborntobemeanandliveapathwinding,however,actuallykeepsapositiveattitudewhichmaintainsindependenceandkeepsinitiativeinlove,lifeandsociety,anddarestostruggle,anddarestostriveforthefreeequalstanding.TheaimtowritethisarticleisthroughJaneEyre,wecanfindanewfemalewhoenjoysnoblequalitywhichinvolvesself-respect,toughandindependent.

JaneEyreisCharlotteBronte’srepresentativeworkin19thcenturyanditissuchagreatnovelthatitholdsanimportantpositioninthehistoryofBritishliterature.Oureyeswerecaughtbyherwordswhichstruggledforequalityandfreedom.CharlotteBrontemadeherselfasaprototype,createdsuccessfullyanewwoman,JaneEyre,whowasplainbutconstantlystrivedtobecomestronger,shehadcouragetofightcontinuouslyforfreedomandequalityinthemaleword.CharlotteBronteandJaneEyrehadsomeexperiencesincommon.Sothroughtheanalysisofthenovel,wecanseethemiserablepredicamentofEnglishwomeninthattimeandtheirstrongdesireofseekingforequalsocialpositionwithmen.ThenovelbeginswithlittleJaneasadespisedorphaninthehouseofheruncle’swidow.Beingrebellious,sheispackedofftoacharitableboardingschool,whichadministersharshdisciplinewithespecialvigor.Janesetsherselftolearn,qualifiesherselfasateacher,advertisesforapost,andisemployedasgovernessoftheillegitimateFrenchdaughterofRochesterinhiscountrymansion,Thornfield.Dramatically,JaneandRochesterhaveaffections;

CharlotteBronteisatypicalfemalewhoisratherindependentandtoughincharacter.Sheisbornin1816atThornton,inYorkshire,England.HerfatherisanIrishAnglicanclergyman,andhermotherisahousewife,whoisunfortunatelydeadofcancerwhenCharlotteisonlyfiveyearsold.Charlotteisthethirdchildofthesixchildren.In1824,CharlotteissentwiththreeofhersisterstotheClergyDaughters’SchoolatCowanBridgeinLancashire.Becauseofitspoorconditionandawfultreatment,twoofhersistersdie,Charlottestillmaintains,butherhealthandphysicaldevelopmentarepermanentlyaffected,sosheandhersisterEmilyremovedfromtheschoolandgobackhomeinHaworthParsonage.WhenCharlotteisalittlegirl,sheisveryinterestedinliteratureandshewritesmanyshortstoriesandpoemstoprepareforherliteraryvocations.
WhenCharlottegrowsuptofifteenyearsold,shecontinueshereducationatRoeHeadSchoolinMidfield.In1839,JaneleavesRoeHeadSchoolandshetakesupthefirstofmanypositionsasgovernesstovariousfamiliesinYorkshire.Thejobatthattimeistreatedwithbiasandshesuffersandbearssomuch.During1839to1841,Janeworkesasagovernesstwotimesbuteachperiodwasshortbecauseshehatedevenabhorredtheoccupationsoshecan’ttakeitupanymore.
Tomakealiving,CharlotteandhersisterEmilywanttoopenaschooltoteachchildrenFrench,buttheyarenotgoodatthislanguage.In1842,theytraveltoBrusselstolearnFrench.TheymeetMr.Herger,theownerofthePensionatHerger,agirl’sschool,whereCharlotteandEmilyarepupilsandCharlottelaterteaching.Mr.Hergerisahandsomeandintelligentman.Duringtheperiodoflearning,Charlottefallsinlovewiththemarriedman.Butsheputsheraffectionsdeeplyinherheart.Herfirstnovel,TheProfessorpublishedunderthenameCurrierBell,isbasedonherexperiencesofteachinginBrussels,butneverfoundapublisherinherlifetime.Undeterredbyherownrejection,CharlottebeginsJaneEyre,whichcomesoutasanimmediatesuccess.Thenovelisdescribedas“themasterworkofagreatgenius.”
TodescribeCharlotte’slovestory,itissimple.Duringtheperiodbetween1839and1842,therearetwomenaskforCharlotte’sproposal,oneisthebrotherofCharlotte’sfriend,anotherisayoungclergyman.Charlotterejectstothemforthereasonthatshethinkssheisnottheirtruelovebutatraditionbuttofollowthetraditiontomarryawoman,however,whenCharlottemeetshertrueloverMr.Herger,whohasbeenmarried,shejustputsherloveinheartdeeply.Herattitudetowardsloveisveryvivid;

TheheroineJaneEyreisaverypoorgirlbutinhertemperament,shestrivesforequalityandself-respect.JaneEyreisanorphan,intheeyesofMrs.Reedandthemistress’schildren;
Janeisan“externalperson”,an“alien”,“apersonratherthanservant”.InGatehead,everyonetreatshermeanlyandcoldly,shedoesnothaveanexplicitpositionandidentity,shedoesnotfeelcomfortableaboutherlivingenvironmentbutsheisnotabletochangeit.Therealitybringsherupintoapersonalityofsolitary,sensitiveandobstinate.Shecherishesherrightsanddignityasahuman,especiallywhensheisonlyalittlegirl,sheusesapairofeyesofearly-maturingchildandapurechild’shearttoobserveandjudgegoodorbadaround.Shehasarichinnerworldbutnoonetotell,soitbringsherapersonalityofquietandindifferentoutsidebutpassionateheartinside.
AsMrs.ReedcannotholdJaneanylonger,JaneissenttoacharitableschoolforpoorgirlsinLogwood.Atfirst,shethinksitisaparadisebutinfactahellexceptthebenevolentintentioninname.Badfood,thinclothes,twogirlsliveinonesmallbed,sixpersonsuseonebasin.Peoplecan’treceivetimelycureiftheycatchacold,sopestilenceisspreading.Janesuffersmolestationofthespiritandbodycontinuously,butthestrongmotionofstudyingandtherebelindependentspiritmakeshersurviveindifficultenvironment,shegrowsupbravelyandbecomesawomanwhohasgoodaccomplishment.JustlikeJanesaystohergoodfriendHelenBurn:
“whenwearestruckatwithoutreason,weshouldstrikebackagainveryhard,Iamsureweshouldhardastoteachthepersonwhostruckusnevertodoitagain.”Duringthatperiod,Janebecomesmorematureinmindandshemakesafurtherdevelopmentofhersevereself-dignityandself-consciousness.
Beforelong,JaneisemployedasatutoroftheilluminatedaughterofRochesterinhiscountrymansion,Thornfield.ItisanewbeginningforJane,sheworksveryhardthereandadaptstothenewenvironmentandnewjobeasily.Asatutor,Janeknowswhatstatusanddignitysheisin,sheprofessesherselfasanindependentworker,whenfacingthemaster,sheisneitherobsequiousnorsupercilious,butgenerousinmanner,sheissocalmandunhurriedinThornfield.Gradually,sheattractstheattentionofthewiseandhonestRochester.Jane’scharacter,whichisoutoftheordinaryandintelligence,likeaspringwindonhisface,givesRochesterashakeforheartandsoul.AsforJane,“Mr.Rochesterismyrelationrathermymaster.DuringthedayinThornfield,mythincrescentdestinyseemedtoenlarge,theblanksofexistencewerefilledup,mybodilyheartyimproved,andIgatheredfleshandstrength.”Theysoonfallinlovewitheachother.ThoughJane’semotionforRochesterissodeep,shefeelsbitterlydisappointed,becauseshemustremindsherselfcontinuouslythatthereisalwaysachasmbetweenthem.RochesterisanupperclassgentlemanwhileJaneisapoortutor,RochesterpossessahighsocialstatusandagreatsumoffortunewhileJanehasnothing.Sheencouragesherself“Ica
