本文介绍NelsonMandela的生平及主要事迹。
NelsonMandelawasborninTranskei,SouthAfricaonJuly18,1918.HewaseducatedatUniversityCollegeofFortHareandtheUniversityofWitwatersrandandqualifiedinlawin1942.HejoinedtheAfricanNationalCongressin1944.
InJune1961,theANCconsideredhisproposalontheuseofviolentactionsandagreedthatthosememberswhowishedtoinvolvethemselvesinMandela'
scampaignwouldnotbestoppedfromdoingsobytheANC.Mandelawasarrestedin1962andsentencedtofiveyears'
imprisonmentwithhardlabour.In1963,Mandelawasbroughttostandtrialforplotting(密谋)tooverthrow(推翻)thegovernmentbyviolence.OnJune12,1964,Mandelawassentencedtolifeimprisonment.From1964to1982,hewasincarcerated(监禁)atRobbenIslandPrison,offCapeTown.
Duringhisyearsinprison,NelsonMandela'
sreputationgrewsteadily.HewaswidelyacceptedasthemostsignificantblackleaderinSouthAfrica.NelsonMandelawasreleasedonFebruary11,1990.Afterhisrelease,heplungedhimselfintohislife'
swork,tryingtoachievethegoalsheandothershadsetoutalmostfourdecadesearlier.In1991,atthefirstnationalconferenceoftheANCMandelawaselectedPresidentoftheANC.
