So,therewewere,andstillare,inourlittlewestcoasttown.Weloveourlittlecornerofparadisebutwehavepaidaprice.Wehavenotbeenthereforsomeimportanteventssuchasthebirthsoftwoofourgrandchildren.Wehavemissedwatchingeachofthemgrowup;
wehavemissedthenormal,noisyhouseholdsthathaveyoungpeopleinthem.Ourhome,whileverycomfortable,isalsoveryquiet.
Everyfallwetraveltoseethechildren.Weusuallyfly,firsttoCaliforniatoseeoursonScottandspendaweekormorewithhimtryingtocatchuponeverythingwe'
vemissed.Then,usuallyinNovember,wemaketheevenlongertripeastacrossCanadatoseeTravisandourgrandchildren,whoarenowteenagers,actuallyintotheirtwenties.Theyseldomcometovisitus.Thedistancesarejusttoogreatanditiscostly.
Fortunately,bothourboysaredoingwellandourgrandchildrenaregrowingupstraightandtall.Weloveallofthemandwearesecureintheknowledgethattheyloveusbuttherealityisthattheydon'
tneedus.Wehavedoneourjobsand,atleastintheory,wecansitback,relaxandenjoythetimeremainingtous.Theyhavealsomissedhavingasetofparentsandgrandparentsaround.
