Thisisthefirstteachingperiodofthisunit.Atthebeginningoftheclass,theteachercanleadinthetopicoftheunitbyhavingafreetalkwithstudentsabouttheirwinterholidaysandtheSpringFestival.
TheWarmingUpisintendedtohavestudentsstartthinkingaboutthevarietyofeventsandfestivalsthatarecelebratedinChina,andconnectthemwithseasonsoftheyearandreasonsforthecelebrations.TheteachercanusethisparttointroduceinformationthatChinesestudentsshouldhaveabouttheircountry’sculturalevents.
ThePre-readingisacontinuationoftheWarmingUpanditmovesthediscussiontoamorepersonallevel.Itisintendedtohelpstudentsenterimaginativelyintoadiscussionoffestivalsandtheirimportancetothesociety.Italsodirectstheirattentiontothevarietyofeventsandactivitiesthosefestivalsinclude.TheteachershouldletstudentsdiscussthequestionsandpredictwhatkindofinformationwillbeintroducedintheReading.
