1.Introduction
Sincetheawakeningofthespringin2014,threemonthsfromApriltoJunewitnessedmyinternshipintheCoolCampDepartmentofNewOrientalEducation&
TechnologyGroupInc.,Guangzhou.Withinthetimeframeofthreemonths,Imanagedtolandajobinthedepartmentmainlyinchargeofthreefacets:
1.torecruitthenewteachingstaff;
2.toassumetheresponsibilityoftrainingnewteachersandassistants;
3.tocompilethenewversionofEnglishtextbooksgearedtoK-12groups.
2.GoalsandObjectives
Theprimaryobjectiveoftheinternshipisto:
1.furtherenhancemyorganizationalandmanagerialcapability;
2.deviseanappropriatedevelopmentalschemeforthenewblood;
3.honemyskillsofcompilationoftextbooks.
3.TheOrganizationandmyWorkinit
NewOrientalEducation&
TechnologyGroupInc.,viz.NewOriental,wasthefirstChineseeducationalinstitutiontoentertheNewYorkStockExchangein2006,whichisaproviderofprivateeducationalservicesinChina.TheheadquartersofNewOrientalislocatedintheHaidiandistrictofBeijing.ItiscurrentlythelargestcomprehensiveeducationalcompanyinChina.ThebusinessofNewOrientalincludespre-schooleducation,generalcoursesforstudentsofvariousagelevels,onlineeducation,overseasstudyconsulting,andtextbookpublishing.
Amongthefourmainbranchesnationwide,theGuangzhouNewOrientalbranchoutclassestheotherthreeintermsofhumanresourcesandgeographicallocation,togetherwiththeuniqueCoolCampDepartmentofWinterandSummerCamp.
4.TheGapbetweentheExperienceandmyExpectations
Asisnotedinthepreviousparagraphs,myworkwasroughlydividedintothethreedimensionsabove:
recruitment,training,compiling.
Chronologicallyspeaking,theinitialtaskofmyworkwastoestablishrecruitmentactivitiesinourschool.Themostconspicuousgapbetweenrealityandexpectationconsistedintheinterferenceoftheforcemajeure.Tobemorespecific,intheprocessofthepublicizingtheevent,thepostersandflyersfailedtoefficientlyreachthetargetaudiencenamelythegirlsintheSchoolofForeignLanguagesduetothefactthattheposterswerealwayscoveredbyothercoloredandvariedpostersorbannersofotheractivities.Further,thesecondcaseoftheforcemajeurewasthetimearrangement.Unfortunately,betweenthefirst-stagepreparationandthedayoftheevent,ashortbreakofQingmingFestivalinterruptedtheproceedingsofthepropagation,therebydilutingthestrengthandeffectsofthepopularization.
Whatfollowedtherecruitmentwasthetrainingandnurturingofthenewteachersandassistants.CountertothereceivedideasthatthegirlsatforeignlanguagedepartmentaretalkativeandhaveagoodcommandofEnglish,therealityis,theproficiencyofEnglish,theirpersonalpreferences,andthepresentationskillsandstyle,allvariedsignificantlyfromeachindividualtoindividual,whichwasindeedaheadacheformetodeviseareasonableandappropriatetrainingscheme.
Ultimately,alsothemostpainstakingly,enormousamountofordealanddifficultiespresentedthemselvesasIplungedintothecompilationofthenewtextbooks.Asisthecasewiththemajorityofintellectuals,asolidcollectionofpublishedmaterialsthatcarrytheirnamesarethesymboloftheirprideandknowledge,thepassporttothepantheonofacademicleaders.Thisfirmlyrootedbeliefplusmyzealforacademicresearch,servedasthecatalystformycompilingthetextbookofEnglishreadingandvocabulary.
Nonetheless,onlyinpracticedidIcometothepainfulrealizationthatIwasfarfromacademicallyqualifiedtofulfillthismission.Forexample,inreferencetothedetailedusageofsomekeywordsandphrases,therelevantsentencescontainingthesewordswerenecessitatedrespectivelyinseveralregisterssuchasspokenandwrittenregisters.Ifwedothemath,thenumberofsentencecollectioncouldreachmorethan1000sentences,whichisapparentlybeyondmycapability.
5.NewSkillsandInformationGained
Mymanagerialandcoachingskillsareremarkablyhonedbyheedingscrupulousattentionandfindingcreativewaystosettheplansintrain.
Whenitcomestothelaunchingoftherecruitment,Ididn’tsetfootinthisrecruitmentsectoruntilthistime.Beingtheleaderofthebigevent,Ididfeelinmybonesthatitwasnotapieceofcaketoreachthecriticalmassofthisactivity,thatis,theessentialcontrivanceofthescheduleaswellasthedesignofthesloganandbannerallhadbornemyscrutiny.Astothemoreconcretetasks,forinstance,thespeechscriptalsohadmyfingerprintsalloverit.Aftertherecruitment,Idobetterunderstandthatattheheartoftherecruitmentistheeffectiveandefficientdissemi
