3.ClickOK.
Enterthemodeltitleanddescription
ThemodeltitleanddescriptionwillappearintheDataBrowserwindow.
1.ClickontheGlobalstabintheTabspane.
2.EnterthetitleScrewAugerModelintheTitlefieldintheSimulationsection.
3.EnteradescriptionintheDescriptionfield.
Setthecontactmodel
ThePhysicssectionlistscontactmodelsandforces.Acontactmodeldescribeshowelementsbehavewhentheycomeintocontactwithoneanother.Setthecontactmodelsasfollows:
1.Selectinteractionparticle-to-particleandbesureHertz-Mindlin(noslip)islisted.
2.Selectinteractionparticle-to-geometryandbesureHertz-Mindlin(noslip)islisted.
Setthegravityanddefinethematerials
Everyparticleorsectionofgeometryusedinamodelismadeofaparticularmaterial.AllmaterialsandtheinteractionsbetweenthemmustbedefinedintheMaterialssection.
1.Checkthatgravityissetto-9.81m/s2inthezdirection.
2.Clickthe
buttonatthetopoftheMaterialssection.Thiscreatesanewmaterial.
3.Clickthe
buttonandrenamethematerialtoParticleMaterial.ClickOK.
4.SetthePoisson'
sratio,Shearmodulus,anddensityasshownbelow:
Nowdefinethescrewaugermaterial.Itismadeofsteel–amaterialverylikethehigh-stiffnessexampledefinedinthestandardEDEMmaterialsdatabase.Insteadofdefiningitliketheparticlematerial,youcansimplytransferitfromthedatabase.
1.ClicktheTransferbutton.TheMaterial/InteractionsTransferdialogwillappear.
2.ExpandtheMaterialstreeintheMaterialsdatabasewindowandselecthigh-stiffness.
3.Clicktheleftarrowtocopythematerialintoyourmodel.ClickOKtoclosethewindow.
4.Selectthehigh-stiffnessmaterialandclickthe
buttontorenamethematerialassteel.
Definetheinteractionsbetweenthematerials
1.SelectParticleMaterialfromthedrop-downlistatthetopofthematerialssection.
buttonintheInteractionsectionandwhenpromptedchooseParticleMaterial.Thiswilldefinetheinteractionbetweenelementsbothmadeoftheparticlematerial.

DefinetheBaseParticles
AlltypesofparticleusedinamodelaredefinedintheParticlespane.Thesearethebaseorprototypeparticles.

Definethesurfacesandproperties
Particlesaremadeupofoneormoresphericalsurfaces.Inthiscasethegrainparticleisspherical,soitisnotnecessarytocreateanymoresurfaces(onesurfaceiscreatedautomaticallywhenyoucreateanewparticle).
1.Setthesurfaceradiusto10mm.
2.Setthematerialtoparticlematerial.
3.ClicktheCalculatePropertiesbuttonandpicktheSurfacesoptioninthedialogthatappears.BesureAutomaticallyCenterParticlesischecked.

DefinetheGeometry
Nowdefinethescrewaugergeometryusedinthemodel.
Importthescrewaugergeometry
ThescrewaugergeometryhasbeencreatedinaCADpackagereadyforimportintoEDEM.Itismadeupofthreesections–ablade,abladecoreandahopper.
1.ClicktheGeometrytab.
2.ClicktheImportbuttonintheSectionssection.
3.Navigatetothefilescrew_auger_complete.igsandimportit.
4.WhentheGeometryImportParametersdialogappearsleaveallthesettingsatthedefaultvaluesandclickOK.
5.Whenprompted,changeChooseUnitstoMillimeters.
ThescrewaugerwillappearintheViewer.Itismadeupofthreesections,eachislistedinthesectiondrop-downlist.Whenanyisselecteditishighlightedinred.Toviewinternalgeometries,selectMeshastheGeometryDisplayMode.
1.Selecteachsectionfromthelistandclickthe
buttontorenamethemcore,hopperandscrewbladeasappropriate.
2.Setthematerialtosteelforeachpieceofgeometry.
