@#@shunwang@,fax86-577-88373111@#@ABSTRACT@#@HighlyuniformTe3Ddendriticsuperstructuresweresuccessfullypreparedinlargequantitiesusingabiphasicsolvothermalinterfacereactionroute.Diethyldithiocarbamatotellurium(IV)(TDEC)usedasTesourceand2,2’-dithiodibenzoicacid(DSTA)usedasreducingagentweredissolvedintwoimmisciblesolventschloroformandNH4Cl-NH3buffersolution(pH=10)respectively.ThecrystalstructureandmorphologicalstructureswerecharacterizedbyX-raydiffraction(XRD),scanningelectronicmicroscopy(SEM),transmissionelectronicmicroscopy(TEM),andselectedareaelectronicdiffraction(SAED).TheindividualTedendriteiscomposedofalongcentraltrunkwithsecondarybranches,whichpreferentiallygrewinaparalleldirectionwithadefiniteangletothetrunk.Severalfactors,includingthereactiontemperature,volumeratiooftwosolvents,andpHvaluewereidentifiedtobeimportantandinvestigatedindetail.ThepossiblegrowthprocessisproposedbyarrestingthegrowthataseriesofintermediatemorphologystagesduringtheshapeevolutionofTe3DdendriticsuperstructuresbasedonSEMobservations.Theresultsimpliedthattheformationof3Dhierarchicalstructureswascontrolledbythekineticconditions.@#@1.Introduction@#@Inorganicmicro/nanocrystalshaveexhibitedmanyinterestingnovelsize-andshape-dependentproperties.[1-2]Inthepastfewdecades,therehasbeenanincreasingnumberofreportsonthesynthesisof1-3Dinorganiccrystals,suchasrods,[3]wires,[4]plates,[5]tubules,[6]dendrites,[7]andcubes.[8]2Dor3Dstructuresaremoreattractivethan1Drodsorwiresbecausetheycannotonlytransportholesorelectronsmoreeffectivelyviatheinterconnectednetworksinthe2Dand3Dscaffoldsbutalsoprovideboththeelectricallinksandahighsurface/volumeratio.[9]Inparticular,synthesisofcomplexmicro/nanostructures,includingfractalpatterns,dendrites,andotherhierarchicalstructures,hasattractedgreatattentionbecausestudiesonthesehyperbranchedstructuresareusefultounderstandtheirformationmechanismandtofabricateelectronicorphotonicnanodevices.[10-11]Ontheotherhand,adendriteisakindofmaterialthathasamainstemfromwhichmanysidebranchesgrowout.Itisworthnotingthatdendriticstructureswithbranchedarchitectureshaveattractedmuchattentionduetotheirimportanceinunderstandingthefascinatingfractalgrowthphenomenaandtheirpotentialapplicationsinfunctionaldevices,plasmonics,biosensing,andcatalysis,recentexamplesincludethehierarchicaldendritesofmetals,[12]oxides,[13]hydroxide,[14]nanoporoussilicates[15]andsulfides[16]formedinsolutionsystems.However,itisstillabigchallengetodevelopsimpleandreliablesyntheticmethodsforhierarchicallyself-assembledarchitectureswithnovelandinterestingmorphologies,whichwouldleadtonovelpropertiesofmicro/nanomaterials.@#@Tellurium(Te)isanimportantsemiconductorwithanarrowbandgap(~0.35eV).Muchattentionhasbeenfocusedontelluriumsemiconductornanomaterialsbecauseithasinterestingandusefulnonlinearopticalresponses,photoconductivity,piezoelectricityandthermoelectricityproperties,suchpropertiesmakeitusefulasnonlinear-infraredoptics,infraredphotoconductivedetectors,piezoelectronicdevices,andthermoelectronicmaterials.[17-21]ThecrystalstructureofTeishighlyanisotropicwithcovalentlybondedatomsforminguniquehelicalchains.ThesechainsareboundthroughweakvanderWaalsinteractionsandformhexagonallattices.ThisanisotropicstructureinducesTetoward1Dgrowth.[22]Inthepastfewdecades,1Dtelluriumnanocrystals,includingTenanotubes,nanorods,nanowires,andnanobelts,havebeensynthesizedthroughdifferentroutes,suchashydrothermalmethods,[23]surfactant-assistedapproach,[24]biomolecule-assistedroutes,[25]physicalvapordeposition,[26]visible-light-assistedtechnique,[27]transformationofstabilizerdepletedCdTenanoparticlesinmethanol,[28]andmicrowave-assistedmethod.[29]However,comparedwiththe1Dnanostructures,themorphologyof2Dor3Dsuperstructuresisratherdifficultachievedbymeansofclassicalchemicalapproaches.Raosynthesizedfeather-likeandflower-likeTenanostructuresbyaself-seedingsolutionprocess.[30]Bundle-likeTenanostructureshavebeensynthesizedviaahydrothermaltreatmentwiththeassistanceofcetyltrimethylammoniumbromide(CTAB)byQian.[31]However,theexplorationof3DcomplexTestructuresbasedon1Dnanostructuresisstillanattractivefield.Toourbestknowl
