Abstract
TheCentercarrier-typeprogressivedieforU-bendingsheetmetalproductionpartisaveryspecificdivision.Thisstudyrevealsthesheetmetalformingprocesswithmulti-formingdiebyCutofftypefeedingsystem.
ThroughtheFEMsimulationbyDEFORM,itwasacceptedtoU-bendingprocessasthefirstperformancetodesignofstripprocesslayout.
Thenextprocessofdiedevelopmentwasstudiedaccordingtosequenceofdiedevelopment,i.e.diestructure,machiningconditionfordiemaking,diematerials,heattreatmentofpartiallydiecomponents,know-howandsoon.
Thefeatureofthisstudyisthediedevelopmentofscraplessprogressivedieofmulti-stagethroughtheModelingontheI-DEASprogram,componentsdrawingontheAuto-Lisp,CAD/CAMapplication,ordinarymachinetooloperatingandrevisionbytryout.

1Introduction
Theprogressivedieperformsaseriesoffundamentalsheetmetalworkingattwoormorestagesduringthepressrunningtoproduceaproductionpartasthestripstockmovingthroughthediesurface.Pressworkingfromtheoptimumdiedesignanditsmakinghavebeenthepurposeofmassproductioninthemanufacturingfield.
So,thisstudyneedsawholeofpresstooldata,ourfieldexperiences,andtheoreticalinstructions.Accordingtoupperfactors,thisstudycouldbeachievedtotheoptimumdiedesignthroughtheFEMsimulation,I-DEASmodeling,andpracticalmethodofdiemaking.
Furthermoretheaimofleastdefectscouldbeobtainedmostlybyrevisionthroughthetryout.
2.Diedesign
2.1.Diedevelopingsystem
Fig.1showsthenetworkofdiedevelopmentsystem.

Inthissystem,itcanbeknownthattheproductionengineering,diemakingtechnology,standardization,troubleshooting,manpower,purchase,tool,material,etc.areconnectedwithasoftwareandhardware,relatedinstructionsofwideanddeeptechnologyanditstheoreticalbackground.
Fig.2showsoneofdiecomponentsdrawingbyexistingAuto-LispprogramundertheAutoCADandWindowenvironment.

Somethingoftheotherdiecomponentsdesignhavefollowedtothismethodandexperiences.
2.2.Stripprocesslayout
Thedispositionofpartonthestripfeedunfoldingwasdisplayedwithaconstantarearepeatedly.
Duetouppercause,itmustbeenoughthatthedecisionofstripfeedingdistance(advance,pitch)anddispositionofeachstageonthestriplayoutareperformedexactly.Ourintentionconsideredthatthebestutilizationratioofsheetmetalcanbeobtainedastakingtheaccuratestripprocesslayoutdesignthroughthetheoreticalcalculationandfieldexperiences.
Thisistheoptimummethodofinitialdiedesign.Atthistimewereferredthewebsizeonthestripfromdatabaseanditsrelatedinstructions.
