Inanefforttoquantifythatthreat,astrophysicistsAbrahamLoebandManasviLingamoftheHarvard-SmithsonianCenterforAstrophysicsdevelopedamathematicalmodelthatassumessociety’svulnerability(脆弱性)tosolarstormswillgrowwithtechnologicaladvances.Underthismodel,duringthenext50years
thepotentialforeconomicdamagewilldependprimarilyontherisingoddsofastrongsolarstormovertime.Beyond50yearsourvulnerabilitywillincreasedramaticallywithtechnologicalprogressuntilthelatterlevelsoff.
