2.1TheintroductionofWinstonGroom
WinstonGroomwasborninWashington,D.C.,andwasraisedinMobile,AlabamawhereheattendedUniversityMilitarySchool(nowknownasUMS-WrightPreparatorySchool).Groom'
searliestambitionwastobecomealawyerlikehisfather,butinstead,whilealiteraryeditorincollege,hechosetobecomeawriter.GroomattendedtheUniversityofAlabama,wasamemberofDeltaTauDeltaFraternityandtheArmyROTC,graduatingin1965.HeservedintheArmyfrom1965to1969,includingatourofdutyintheVietnamWar.
UponhisreturnfromVietnam,heworkedasareporterfortheWashingtonStar,aWashingtonD.C.newspapercoveringpoliceandcourtroomactivities.Groomretiredasajournalistatage32,andbeganwritinghisfirstnovelBetterTimesThanThesewhichwaspublishedin1978.BetterTimesThanThesewasaboutagroupofpatrioticsoldiersintheVietnamWarwhoselivesandpatriotismbothareshattered.HisnextnovelAsSummersDie(1980)receivedbetterrecognition.HisnovelConversationswiththeEnemy(1982)followsanAmericanVietnamWarsoldierwhoescapesfromaPOWcampandtakesaplanebacktotheUnitedStatesonlytobearrestedfourteenyearslaterfordesertion.ConversationswiththeEnemywasafinalistforthePulitzerPrizein1983.
In1985,GroommovedbacktoMobile,AlabamawherehebegantoworkonthenovelForrestGump.ForrestGumpwaspublishedin1986;
however,itdidnotmakeGroomabestsellingauthoruntilitwasadaptedintoafilmwiththesamenamein1994starringTomHanksinthetitleroleofForrestGump.Thefilmpropelledthenoveltobestsellerstatusanditsold1.7millioncopiesworldwide.
GroomdevoteshistimetowritinghistorybooksaboutAmericanwars.HehaslivedmostrecentlyinPointClear,Alabama,andLongIsland,NewYorkwithhiswife,Anne-Clintonanddaughter,Carolina.GroomwasanoldfriendofwriterWillieMorris,datingtotheirdaystogetherinBridgehampton,LongIsland,NewYork.

Thehistoryoffeminisminvolvesthestoryoffeministmovementsandoffeministthinkers.Dependingontime,cultureandcountry,feministsaroundtheworldhavesometimeshaddifferentcausesandgoals.Mostwesternfeministhistoriansassertthatallmovementsthatworktoobtainwomen'
srightsshouldbeconsideredfeministmovements,evenwhentheydidnot(ordonot)applythetermtothemselves.Otherhistoriansassertthatthetermshouldbelimitedtothemodernfeministmovementanditsdescendants.Thosehistoriansusethelabel"

Themodernwesternfeministmovementisdividedintothree"
waves"
.Eachisdescribedasdealingwithdifferentaspectsofthesamefeministissues.Thefirstwavereferstothemovementofthe19ththroughearly20thcenturies,whichdealtmainlywithsuffrage,workingconditionsandeducationalrightsforwomenandgirls.Thesecondwave(1960s-1980s)dealtwiththeinequalityoflaws,aswellasculturalinequalitiesandtheroleofwomeninsociety.Thethirdwaveoffeminism(late1980s-earlyfirstdecadeofthe21stcentury),isseenasbothacontinuationofthesecondwaveandaresponsetotheperceivedfailures.

smovementinspiredmanyauthorsofthattimetowriteabouttheirpersonalexperienceswithfeminism.JoFreemanandSaraEvansweretwosuchauthors.Bothwomenparticipatedinthemovementandwroteabouttheirfirsthandknowledgeoffeminism.Freeman,Americanfeministandwriter,wroteseveralfeministarticlesonissuessuchassocialmovements,politicalparties,publicpolicytowardwomenandmanyotherimportantpiecesaboutwomen.Evanswroteherexperiencesinbookssuchas"

.Herworksfocusedmoreonyoungwomenactivistsrecognizingthatthe"
