Electronicbusiness(e-business)todayplaysamajorroleintheworld’seconomy.Forester
Researchestimatedthat,by2003,thevalueofe-commerceofUSandEuropewillreachUS$3trillion.Asthee-marketplacebecomesmorelucrative,itattractsnewentrantsandcreatedturmoilinthemarket.Therehavebeenmanyspectacularsuccessesandmanyfailures.Thispaperpresentsastudyofe-businesscompetitiveadvantagestrategiesusingthesuccessatIntel.Aftertheinitialdeploymentofitse-businesspilotsysteminJuly1998,IntelrampedUS$1billionsalesone-businesseachmonthfortherestoftheyear.IntelbecamethefifthmostprofitablecompanyintheUSintheyear2000,upfromtherankofeighthin1999.DespitetherapiddeclineinstockvaluesofmanyInternetrelatedcompaniesandtherecession,Intelisstillsuccessful.Bytheendof2001,IntelwastheseventhlargestmarketcapitalizationcompanyintheUS.#2002ElsevierScienceB.V.Allrightsreserved.

1.Introduction
E-businesshasreceivedmuchattentionfromentrepreneurs,executives,investors,andindustryobserversrecently.Asinformationtechnologies(IT)develop,novelwaysofbusiness
processredesign(BPR)emerged,creatingturmoilintheindustry.OrganizationstodayfrequentlyintegrateInternettechnologytoredesignprocessesinwaysthatstrengthentheircompetitiveadvantages.Successbreedsimitationandinvitesmoreentries.
Therapidexpansionofe-commercevaluesinthepastfewyearsconvincedmanypeoplethataneweconomyhasemerged.ChairmanofMicrosoft,BillGates,frequentlyexpressedhisfearthatMicrosoftisabout2yearsawayfromfailure,thatsomewhereoutthereisaformidablecompetitor,unbornandunknown,whowillusebetterbusinessmodelstoputcompanieslikeMicrosoftintoobsolescence.AndthemostsuccessfulnewbusinessmodelsareprobablythosethatcanintegrateInternettechnologytoallactivitiesoftheenterprise-widevaluechain.2.E-businessconcepts,strategies,andframeworks
Basedonvarioustypesoftradingpartners,therearemanycategoriesofe-business,forexample:
BusinesstoBusiness(B2B),BusinesstoConsumer(B2C),ConsumertoBusiness(C2B),ConsumertoConsumer(C2C),PeopletoPeople(P2P),GovernmenttoCitizen(G2C),CitizentoGovernment(C2G),ExchangetoExchange(E2E)andIntra-business(OrganizationUnittoOrganizationUnit).Withouttheuseoffacetofaceoperations,alle-businesstransactionsareperformedelectronicallybyusingcomputerandcommunicationnetworks.Thethreeprincipalcategoriesofe-businessapplicationsare:
1.Electronicmarketsore-marketplaces:
buyingandsellinggoodsandservices.
2.Inter-organizationalsystems:
facilitatinginterandintra-organizationflowofgoods,services,information,communication,andcollaboration.
3.Customerservice:
providingcustomerservice,help,handlingcomplaints,trackingorders,etc..
2.1.Informationsystemsstrategiesforcompetitiveadvantage
StudyingtheevolutionofbusinessorganizationshasreceivedmuchofattentioninorganizationtheoryandMISresearch.Becauseorganizationsarenotinternallyself-sufficient,theyrequireresourcesfromtheenvironment,andthusbecomeinterdependentwiththoseelementsoftheenvironmentwithwhichtheytransact.Organizationalandecologicaltheoristsarguedthat
organizationsdevelopinternalandexternalstrategieswhichseektominimizetheuncertaintyarisingfromdependenceontheenvironmentforresources.
Asthetechnologyadvancesandthee-businessmarketdevelopsandgrows,marketniches
openandclosefrequently,creatingrapidchangesinthemarket.Theprevalenceoftechnicalinnovationsmayberegular,sporadic,orseldom;
thesepatternsofchangehavedifferentimplicationsforbusinessorganizations.Wheninnovationsoccuroften,anichemayopenupandtheorganizationcompetestotaketheadvantageofcostsavingsandmarketpenetrationthatoftenresultsinbetterprofitsandmarketshare.
FromtheISperspective,thevaluechainmodelhighlightsinterdependenceactivitiesin
businesseswherecompetitivestrategiescanbebestappliedandwhereISaremostlikelytohavestrategicimpact.
