论CLT教学法在高中教学的应用
AnalysisofRestraintsinUsingCLT
inSeniorHighSchoolEnglishTeaching
I.Introduction
Communicativeapproach,asanewteachingmethod,wasintroducedtoEFL(EnglishasForeignlanguage)teachersinChinain1970sandisgraduallyadoptedthusbecamepopularin1990sinChina.TheauthorwantstoknowwhethertheadoptionofCLTinChinaiseffective.Ifnot,whataretherestraintsthataffecttheadoption?
Howeveroursocietyhasn’trecognizedtheharmoftheserestraintswhichaffecttheefficientuseofCLT.Thisarticleiswrittentodrawteachers’authorities’andparents’attentiontotakeremediestorealizetheefficientuseofCLT.
TheessayisbasedonaresearchwhichwasmadeinYueqingCity,theauthor’shometown,acityinZhejiangProvince.Theresearchisontheformofaquestionnaireandinterviews.Theresearchwasmadeindifferentkindsofschools,includingkeypublicschoolsordinarypublicschoolsandprivateschoolstokeeptheresultscientific.Onehundredandeightteachersfromdifferentschoolsareinterviewedbyquestionnaires.
Thisessayisdividedintofiveparts.ThefirstpartofthisessayisintroductionofCLT.ThesecondpartistointroducetheresultofresearchconcerningcurrentsituationofuseofCLT.ThethirdpartistoanalyzerestraintsinusingCLT.Thefourthpartistogiveremedies.Thelastpartistoconclude.
1.1DefinitionofCLT
CommunicativeLanguageTeachingisalsocalledCommunicativeApproach.Itisanapproachtoforeignorsecondlanguageteaching,whichemphasizesthatthegoaloflanguageteachingiscommunicativecompetence.Theapproachfollowsthenationalsyllabusandemphasizestheprocessesofcommunicationtogetinformation,usinglanguageforsocialinteractionwithotherpeople.Thefunctionalviewoflanguageisprimaryonebehindthecommunicativemethod.ThegoaloflanguageteachingistodevelopwhatHymes(1972:
5)referredtoas“communicativecompetence,whichinvolvesbeingabletousethelanguageappropriateinagivensocialcontext.”AccordingtoBrown(1983),thedefinitionofCLTincludesfourcharacteristics:
(l)Classroomgoalsarefocusedonallofthecomponentsofcommunicativecompetenceandnotrestrictedtogrammaticalorlinguisticcompetence.
(2)Formisnottheprimaryframeworkfororganizingandsequencinglessons.Formistheframeworkthroughwhichfunctionistaught.
(3)Accuracyissecondaryintermsofconveyingmessages.Fluencymaytakemoreimportancethanaccuracy.Theultimatecriterionforcommunicativesuccessistheactualtransmissionandreceivingofintendedmeaning.
(4)Inthecommunicativeclassroom,thestudentsultimatelyhavetousethelanguageproductivelyandreceptively,inunrehearsedcontexts.
1.2TheFeatureofCLT
Comparedwithothermethods,CLTmeritsmanydistinguishingfeatures.
Learnersarerequiredtobeactivelyinvolvedinusinglanguagebymeansoflearningthrough“learnerslearnhowtouseLanguagecreatively,suchasrespondinginnovelandauthenticcommunicativesituations.”Grammarandvocabularyaretaughtcommunicatively.Solearnerscanusethegrammartoexpressdifferentcommunicativemeanings.Learnersworkinsmallgroupsandpairs.Theylearnskillsofcooperatingwithothersandhowtoexpresstheirownopinionsandfeelingsbyengaginginactivitiesinwhichtheymustthinkcreatively.Theyareprovidedbyopportunitiesforusingthemeaningfulcontextandinnewandcomplexways.Eachclassmayincludedailyrevisionoflanguage,richandcomprehensibleinputandnegotiatemeaning“Putupwithlearners’errors.”Fluencyfirst,accuracysecondinoralwork.
II.AResearchontheUseofCLT
Inordertogetfirsthandinformation,theauthormakesaresearchinsevenseniorhighschoolsinYueqingCity.Onehundredandeightteachersfromdifferentschoolsareinterviewedbyquestionnaires.Theinformationofthequestionnaireisgivenintheappendixattheendofthispaper.
