WhenGarciaMarquezwasabout20yearsold,heleftAractatacaandattendeduniversityinBogota.Hebeganstudyinglawbecausethiswaswhathisfatherwantedhimtostudy.However,GarciaMarquezwasnothappy.

DuringthistimeGarciaMarquezreturnedtoAractataca.Itwasonthisvisitthatherealizedhemuststopstudyinglaw.Andherecognizedthathemustreturntothedreamofhischildhood-writing.Forthenextfewyears,GarciaMarquezwroteformanydifferentnewspapers.Andin1955,hepublishedhisfirstbookcalled“LeafStorm”.

Formanyyears,GarciaMarquezknewhewantedtowriteabouthisgrandfather’shouseinAractataca.Towritethisbook,GarciaMarquezandhiswifehadtosellalmostalloftheirpossessionstosurvive.Buttheiractwasworthit.Thebook,“OneHundredYearsofSolitude”wasimmediatelysuccessful.AndthisbookcreatedapathforGarciaMarquez’sfuturesuccess.

In1982,GabrielGarciaMarquezwasgiventheNobelPrizeinLiteratureforhisbook“OneHundredYearsofSolitude”,makinghimthefirstColombianandthefourthLatinAmericantowinaNobelPrizeinLiterature.
