andprovidedundergroundserviceinthemiddleofthecity.ThislaterbecametheCircleLine.Becauseofthesmokefromthesteamengines,earlyundergroundlinesneededlargeholesleadingtothesurfaceatregularintervals

Asbetterwaysfordiggingtunnelsweredeveloped
