Abstract:
lnrecenlyear,thesustainabledevelopmentofautomaticmanuallransmissions(AMTs)controlinvehiclesisconspicuous.Thecontrolapplicationshavegrownfastandsteadilyduetothelremendousprogressinpowerelectronicscomponentsandthecontrolsoftwarethatenhancetherequirementsfordeliveringhighervehiclesperformance.AMTscontroIstrategiesachieveareductioninthedrivelinedynamicoscillationsbehaviorduringgearshiftingandclutchstartingupprocesses.AM-rsfutureexpectationsareanincreaseoftorquecapacity,morespeedratiosandlhedevelopmentofadvancedandefficienlelectroniccontrolsystems.ThispaperconcernswithlheprogressingviewofAMTsinthepast,todayandfuture,givesanoverviewoflhepotentialdynamicproblemsconcernedwithAMTsandsomecontrolstrategiesusedtosolvelhoseproblems.

Introduction
Theresearchcarriedoutduringthelastfewyearsonmanualtransmissionsystemsareconsideredasafoundationforautomaticmanualtransmissionresearch.upgradingtheoldmanualstylebyinsertingelectronicequipmentandsoftwaretoimproveshiftquality,enhancefueleconomy,anddevelopmoreefficientandreliablesystems.In1970ScaniaandDaimlerBenzbegantousehalfautomationcontrolmodeasthefirststageforAMTprogress.Intheirmodelthegearshiftingprocesswasoperatedbyelectro—pneumaticsystemafterpressingtheclutchpeda1.Anelectronicmonitorgavesuggestiontothedriverforoptimalgearshifting[1].AmericanEaton’sSmartimprovedthepreviousmodelbyaddingcontrolstrategiesforboththeclutchandtheengine.Inthesecondstage,afullautomaticcontrolsystemwasgeneratedandthefirstproductwasdeliveredtothemarketbyIsuzuin1984followedbyNissan,FordandRenault,usingthrottlepedalasacontrollingparameterforspeedcontro1.Thethirdstagewasanintelligentautomaticcontrol,inwhichIsuzuandNissanpromotedtheprecedingmodels,pickingupmodemcontroltheorysuchasFuzzylogic,includingenvironmentalparametersandvehiclerunningconditionsintheirmodels[2].Currently,vehiclemanufacturesofAMTsarefocusingonthecustomer’sdemandthatmeansbettershiftqualityandmoreefficienttransmissionsystem,inadditiontofurtherreductionoffuelconsumption.EuropeanlightvehiclemarkethaslowpenetrationofAMTsandautomatictransmissioninthepasttenyears.Ithasgrownslowlyfrom8%tojustover14%becauseconsumersarereluctanttochooseautomatics.IntheUS,AMTdemandhasgrownstronglyandsteadilysothat84%ofcarsareautomaticcurrently.InJapan,themovetoautomaticscamelaterthanintheUSmainlyduetoheavytrafficcongestionthatlimitstheopportunitytoachievemaximumaccelerationorhighspeed.Anyway,AMTshavecometodominatethemarket[3].ChinaenrolledinAMTsresearchesin1984andXinYuanShengcompanyiscurrentlyconstructinganelectrolnechanicalsystemconsistsofDCmotorforactuatingtheclutchandshiftingunitforselectingandshiftingprocesses[4].AMTcontrolstrategiesareveryimportantissuesrequiredtoreducefuelconsumptionanddeliversmoothaccelerationbyminimizingunwantedoscillationswhichhaveadverseeffectsonvehicleperformance.
1ConfigurationsofAMTcontrolsystem
AnAMTcontrolsystemofavehicleconsistsmainlyoftheengine,clutchandgearshiftcontrolunitsoperatedbycomputersoftware,asisshowninFig.1wherethetransmissioncontrolunit(TCU)communicateswiththeenginecontrolunit(ECU)throughastandarCANoraseriaIbus[5].Asignalfromthesensorofaaccelerationpedalshowstheoperationmagnitudeotheaccelerationpedal,andthissignalisfedtothegearshiftingcontrolunitandtheECU.Inthegearshiftincontrolunit,thevehiclespeedandthedataofgearpositionsensorsareusedtodeterminethegearshiftingpoint.
