26]commerce[withthe]Americane-commercetheyfocusonhelpingonbigcompanies,they’refocusingonhelpingbigcompaniestosavethecost.WebelievedChinawedon’thavealotofbigcompanies,wehavesomanysmallbusiness,andsmallbusinessit’ssodifficultforthemtosurvive.IfwecanusingInternetasatechnologytohelpsmallbusinessit’llbefantastic.SowestarttosayifAmericaisgoodathelpingbigcompanies,justlikeAmericaisgoodatmakingbasketballweshouldplaypingponginChina,weshouldhelpthesmallguys.Andweshouldnothelpingsmallguystosavecost,becausesmallbusinessknowhowtosavethecost,butsmallbusinessshouldlearnhowtomakemoney.Soourbusinessisfocusinghelpingsmallbusinesstomakemoneyonline.
Andwewanttomakethecompanylastfor102years.Andpeoplearecurious–why102years?
BecauseAlibabawasbornin1999,lastyearwehad–lastcenturywehadoneyear,thiscentury100years,nextcenturyoneyear.102acrossthreecenturies.Wegiveacleargoaltoanyemployees.Don’tsaywearesuccessful,nomatterhowmuchmoneyweraised,nomatterhowmuchmoneywemake,nomatterhowmuchwehaveachieved.Don’tforgetwewanttolive102years.Now,16yearspassed,wehaveanother86yearstogo.Becauseinnext86years,ifanytimewediewe’reneversuccessful.WhenIheardthisclubis108yearsoldIwassurprisedandshocked.There’ssomuchwecanlearnfromthat.
Well,todaynobodybelievedthatAlibabacouldsurvive,becausepeoplesay“Youare[free],you’retiny”and,youknow,andespeciallywhenwetalkabout–whenweIPO’dpeoplesay“Ah,youareAlibaba,youaree-commerce.You’relikeAmazon.”BecauseinAmericanpointofviewAmazonprobablyistheonlybusinessmodelfore-commerce.Butno,wearedifferent.ThedifferencebetweenusandAmazonisthatwedonotbuyandsell,butwehelpsmallbusinesstobuyandsell.Wehave10millionsmallbusinessonoursitebuyandselleveryday.Andwedonotdeliverourpackages,although–ourselves,thoughwehavemorethan2millionpeoplehelpustodeliverover30millionpackagesperday.
Wedonotownwarehouses,butwemanagetensandthousandsofwarehousesforothersmall,mediumsizeddeliverycompanies.Andwedonotowninventories,butwedohavemorethan350millionbuyers.Wehavemorethan120millionbuyerscomingtoshopeverydayonoursite.Andalso,wesell–ourrevenuelast–oursaleslastyearwereUS$390billion.Andthisyear,possibly,wearegoingtobebiggerthanWalmartglobally.AndWalmartmanage–thatsizeofbusinesshavemorethan2.3millionpeople;wegrowfrom18peopletotoday34,000people.
AndthedifferencebetweenAmazonandustheotherisAmazonisashoppingcenter.Becauseheree-commerceiscommerce,inChinae-commerceisalifestyle.Youngpeople[unintelligible00:

08],theyusinge-commercetoexchangeideas,theycommunicate,theybuildupthetrust,theybuilduparecord.It’sjustlikeStarbucks–younevergotoStarbuckstotesthowwonderfulcoffeeis.It’salifestyle.AndthisishowInternete-commerceischangingChina.
Andwhatwefeltproudofisnothowmuchthingswesell.Isaidthisyearwe’llbebiggerthanWalmart–yes,weareproud.WeknowinfiveyearswewillsellUS$1trillion.Thisismygoal,whichwethinkpossiblywewillmakeit.Weareproudofthatbutwearemoreproudbecausewecreatedirect[andindirect]job,14millionjobsforChina.Andwe’vecreatedjobsinthecountryside.Wecreatedalotofjobsforwomen.Over51percentofthepowersellersontheInternetarewomen.
Sowefeelsoproudofthat.Andpeoplesayokay,nowAlibabadidthat.What'syournext?
What'syourfuturecauseyouareeverywhere.We,80percentofthebuyandthesellonlinearecreatedbyourcompany.Ourfutureisthatwehavetofocusonglobalizingourbusiness.It'snotonlysellmorethings.Wewanttomake,toglobalizetheinfrastructureofeCommerce.WhyInterneteCommercegrowsofastinChinathanintheUSA?
BecausetheinfrastructureofcommerceinChinawastoobad.Notlikehere.Youhave[Click]Motors.Youhavealltheshopsoffline,Walmart,Kmart,everythingeverywhere.ButinChinawehavenothingnowhere.
SoeCommerceintheUSisadessert.It'scomplementarytothemainbusiness.ButinChinaitbecomesthemaincourse.Wecreatedtheinfrastructure.Sowethinkifweglobalizeourinfrastructure—thepayment,thelogisticscenter,thetransparentplatformallaroundtheworld.Helpingthesmallbusinessaroundtheworldtoselleverywhere.Helptheglobalconsumerstobuyeverywhere.Ourvisionisintenyearswewillhelptwobillionconsumersintheworldtoshoponlineanywhereintheworld.You'reshoppingonlinewith72hoursyou'llreceivetheproduct.AndanywhereinChinayoushoponline,youwillreceivetheproductswithin24hours.Andwethinkourglobalizationisstillfocusedonhelpingsmallbusiness.Andhelpingthemtodobusinessinthemostefficientways.AndwethinkthatwewillhelpanothertenmillionbusinessonoureCommerceplatform.
