Thehumansenseofsmelliscloselyassociatedwithouremotions.Weuseourlimbicsystem—thepartofthebrainwhichisthoughttocontrolemotion—toconnectoursenseofsmelltoourfeelings.Beforepeopleevenrecognizeasmell,thedeepestpartsofthebrainhavealreadybeenstimulated(激发)andanemotionalresponsehasbeentriggered.
Researchhasshownthathumanscanreactemotionallytosmellsthatwecanbarelyevennotice.InonestudyatamajoruniversityinChicago,threesmellsweregiventothirty-onevolunteers.Thesmellswereofdifferentconcentrations,andsomeweresolowthattheywerehardlydetectabletothehumannose.Thedifferentsmellsusedwere:
