Schusterandhisteamanalyzedmorethan15,000areasinAustralia,BrazilandCanada.Theyfoundthatthetotaldiversityofwildlifewashighestonlandseithermanagedorco-managedbyindigenousgroups,whilerandomlyselectedareaswithnoformalprotectionweretheleastbio-diverse.Forthreatenedspeciesinparticular,indigenouslandsscoredslightlyhigherthanprotectedlandsonoverallspeciesrichnessinBrazilandCanada,aswellashigherforthreatenedanimalsinAustralia.
