Thatis:

1）theirknowledgeofaparticularsubject;and2）theirknowledgeorexperienceoftheworld.

Soremember,listeningisnotamatterofjustabsorbingthespeaker'swords-thelistenerhastodomorethanthat.

Thelistenerisnotataperecorder,absorbingthespeaker'swordsandputtingthemintohisorherbrain.

Rather,listeninginvolveshearingthespeaker'swordsandreinterpretingthem,addinginformationifnecessary.

Sothemeaningisnotinthewordalone,ratheritisinthepersonwhousesitorrespondstoitsothatthesecondthingthatalistenermustdo-addinformationthatthelecturerassumesthattheyshare.

OK.Thethirdthingthatalistenerneedstodo,andthisistomethemostimportantthingofall,andthat'stopredictasyoulisten.
