2.Educateyourself
WhenSteveMaxwellgraduatedfromcollege,hehadanengineeringdegreeandahigh-techjob—buthecouldn’tbalancehischeckbook.“Itookonefinanceclassincollegebutdroppedittogoonaskitrip,”saysthe45-year-oldfatherofthree,wholivesinWindsor,Colorado.“Iactuallyhadtogotomybankandaskthemtoteachmehowtoreadmystatement(结算单).”

In2003,StevequithisjobtobecomepartownerofacompanythatholdspersonalfinanceseminarsforemployeesofcorporationslikeWal-Mart.Healsostartedgoingtorealestateinvestmentseminars,andit’spaidoff:
