RobinHoodisalegendaryheroofaseriesofEnglishballads,someofwhichdatefromatleastthe14thcentury.Hewasarebel,andmanyofthemoststrikingepisodesinthetalesabouthimshowhimandhiscompanionsrobbingandkillingrepresentativesofauthorityandgivingthegainstothepoor.TheirmostfrequentenemywastheSheriffofNottingham,alocalagentofthecentralgovernment.Othersincludedwealthyecclesiasticallandowners.
Robintreatedwomen,thepoor,andpeopleofhumblestatuswithcourtesy.Agooddealoftheimpetusagainstauthoritystemsfromtherestrictionofhuntingrights.Theearlyballads,especially,revealthecrueltythatwasaninescapablepartofmedievallife.
TheauthenticRobinHoodballadswerethepoeticexpressionofpopularaspirationsinthenorthofEnglandduringaturbulenteraofbaronialrebellionsandagrariandiscontent,whichculminatedinthepeasants'Revoltof1381.RobinHoodwasapeople'sheroasKingArthurwasanoble's.

SituatedintheheartofsouthernEngland,theCountyofBerkshire,alsoknownas"RoyalBerkshire"ishometoseveralwell-knowntownsandcities,suchasWindsor,wherethefamousroyalretreatWindsorCastlecanbefound.AnotherroyalconnectionistheTownofAscot,famousforitsverypopularannualhorseracingfestival—"RoyalAscot".BerkshirealsoboastsmanypicturesquevillageswithviewsacrosstheRiverThamesabsolutelystunning.

Whilstcolorfulflowers,alwaysimportanttothecottagedweller,werehaphazardintheirplanting,vegetablesweregrowninorderedrows.Ediblesweregrown,notonlyforthecottagers'owntablebutalsotobesoldasameansofsupplementingtheirincome.Thegardenwasnotsolelyinhabitedbyplants,forthekeepingofbees,andsometimespigs,whichwasonceacommonsightinthecottagegarden.Thecottagegardenprovidedtheopportunityfortheannualvillageshowtodevelop,witheverykeengardenerhopinghisproducewouldscoopthetopprize.
