WithinAustralia,AustralianHotelsInc(AHI)operatesninehotelsandemploysover2000permanentfull-timestaff,300permanentpart-timeemployeesand100casualstaff.Oneofitslatestventures,theSydneyAirportHotel(SAH),openedinMarch1995.ThehotelistheclosesttoSydneyAirportandisdesignedtoprovidethebestavailableaccommodation,foodandbeverageandmeetingfacilitiesinSydney’ssouthernsuburbs.Similartomanyinternationalhotelchains,however,AHIhasexperienceddifficultiesinAustraliainprovidinglong-termprofitsforhotelowners,asaresultofthecountry’shighlabour-coststructure.Inordertodevelopaneconomicallyviable(可行的)hotelorganization,model,AHIdecidedtoimplementsomenewpoliciesandpracticesatSAH.
