ThoughborninCalifornia,FrostwasbroughtupinNewEngland,whereheisinseparablylinked.AfterdroppingoutofDartmouthCollegetoseekhisliterarydream,heremainedupsetforyears,producingcollectionsofworksbutfailingtogetenoughofthempublishedtomakehiseffortsfinanciallyworthwhile.Finally,FrostlefttheUnitedStatesin1912toseewhetherhisworkmightbebetterreceivedinLondon.Itwas,andin1913hisfirstfullcollectionwaspublishedinGreatBritain.FellowAmericanpoetAmyLowelladoredFrost'sworkandbroughtitbacktotheUnitedStates,publicizingitinsistently.SoonafterwardsFrost'scollectionsbecamebestsellers,andhebecomeafamousfigure.
Fromthenon,Frostwasonhiswaytothelifelongrespectandrecognitionforhisachievementsinpoetry.In1961,hewasinvitedtoreadapoemforthepresidentialinauguration(总统就职典礼)ofJohnF.Kennedy.Herecitedhispoem,“TheGiftOutright”frommemoryattheceremony.Thiswasperhapshislastpoetryreadinginfrontofawidenationalaudiencebeforehisdeathin1963.Moreimportantly,Frostbecamethefirstpoettoreadapoematapresidentialinauguration.
